I am putting so many names out into the ether right now.

Nothing says being American like stripping healthcare from millions of people and adding trillions of dollars to the national debt just to give fucking billionaires a tax break.
But sometimes I really, really want to yell at the patrons.
Hey, it's me again. Your friendly neighborhood librarian. I'm back on my shit, yelling about the TX Lege or something. Thanks @caitlinmoriah.bsky.social @trentrichardnelson.bsky.social and @liberalcurrents.com for once again allowing me to word vomit all over the place.
Oh, I didn't realize that the "porn" was literally jumping off the shelf and accosting children or that parents weren't allowed to be in the public library with their kids. Obviously it's the big, bad library's fault and those damn woke librarians for putting a book on the shelf.
Due to a significant logistical error by idiot man baby Dan Patrick, HB 3225 is officially dead, for now, at least. A win is still a win, but we still need to keep the pressure up on our reps to ensure that a bill like this never comes back on the docket.
Giving youth access to a wide variety of reading materials builds community cohesion. Student Hazel Eyles shared: “I have always wanted to help people in my community...Being able to read about other people's experiences has opened my eyes and allowed me to understand many different perspectives.”
Tx HB3225 may go to the Senate soon. Your city council probably doesn’t even know about the $10,000 fine to the library. Or that the library will have to I.D. Everyone under 18. What can you do? Inform your city council members ASAP!
And of course the bill is incredibly vague as to what constitutes sexually explicit, but we all know they mean queer people.
HB 3225 passed the Texas House today, meaning we are one step closer to essentially banning minors from the library if we cannot guarantee that they will not come into contact with "sexually explicit materials" and can be fined punitively for every instance where this might be the case.
SB412 passed because of fucking course it did. Just say you want to ban books and criminalize teachers and librarians you fucking neanderthals.
Do you love your Texas public library? NOW is the time to speak up. Two bills are threatening to limit access to our teens at public libraries. Contact your Texas House representative. Tell them you oppose HB3225 and you support your public library!
TFW you're in the middle of a christofascist government takeover and you realize that it hasn't even been 100 days.
Nothing enrages me more than these fucking assholes acting like their kid learning about the existence of queer people equates to being oppressed. Having freedom does not mean you get to deny other people freedom just because you don't like them or agree with them.
Not saying he's right, but I meaaaannnnnnn... 👀
I am trying not to get pre-pissed off about HB 3225 but let's be real - I've been pissed off since this legislative session started. These fucking troglodytes are banning kids from using the library and accessing information. They are trying to criminalize librarians for doing their jobs. I hate it.
Also, I shouldn't have to say this, but here we fucking are: Libraries do not keep porn on the shelves, and most assuredly don't shelve it in the children's section.
If you find something offensive in the library, the correct response is to set it down and walk away. Better yet, ask the librarian for help finding something that you do want. It's not to legislate that minors can't be in the library because they might see something objectionable.
How dare we provide viewpoint diversity and *gasp* actually curate a collection that meets the community's diverse needs?
Apparently, a public library should only be accessible to white heterosexual adults and only feature white heterosexual stories. Can't have any of that pesky community representation nonsense because *what if* someone gets their precious fee fees hurt?
Texas HB3225 will be heard at State Affairs committee April 14. This bill would set up age restrictions for public libraries. Remember when they said you can just check it out at the public library? #bookbans
Contact members of the Texas House State Affairs committee and tell them to vote "no" on SB412 which would criminalize all educators for just doing their job. house.texas.gov/committees/c...
Tell Congress to protect library funding. Show up for our libraries, American Library Association.
It's officially #TakeActionForLibraries Day!
To celebrate and advocate for libraries and library funding, we want every library lover to make their voice heard today.
Head to ala.org/showup to take action by calling or emailing Congress, writing a letter to your local newspaper, and more!
Boooo 👎
Then what's her beef????? I don't understand??
Interesting, because when I fenced, albeit not professionally, I had to fence against everyone, regardless of gender in tournaments. I actually think that fencing is an equalizer sport, because while strength can certainly play into it, it actually rewards you more for being quick and clever.
happy library workers’ day to all the librarians who keep us informed, provide opportunities for communities to come together, and keep our libraries running. and thank you to my favorite librarian @whreads.bsky.social for being such a great podcast guest!

Text reads: Happy National Library Workers Day! There are all different kinds of library workers. They may not all be librarian in title, but they are just as vital. They serve the community with extraordinary compassion. They keep the library open. They are overworked, burnt out, under attack, stressed... yet they still show up each day. They show up for library kids, library grown-ups, for us! They are the helpers the mother of Mister Rogers spoke of. Thank you is not enough... but thank you We love you!
