No no, I mean the game as a whole, haha. I'm not in love with Delfino Plaza either, especially all the underground tunnel sections, but it's still miles better than having to trek back to the little hub rooms over and over again.
Also I can't stand the hub. Looks gorgeous! Love the music! But in terms of how it functions, the Comet Observatory is one of the worst hubs I've ever seen in a 3D platformer, and that's one of the biggest reasons I've always liked the sequel a lot better.
(it's still way better than Sunshine tho)
I think it's a little TOO paired back and simplified in terms of movement and controls. Sort of like Wonder, it trades player expression and challenge for variety & creativity, and that's fine, but it means it's REALLY hard for lightning to strike twice, even all these years later.
At the time I *loved* it, I binged it so hard and was enthralled the whole time. I felt like it was everything Sunshine should've been, a true successor to Mario 64.
But I've never been able to get into a replay of it.
(I also thought the Robotnik in CD's Metal Sonic race was Snivley in disguise.)
This issue was canon for me as a kid. When I played the game, I felt like the Freedom Fighters were running recon somewhere just off-screen.
Tuxedo Masc design I made. Featuring the trans flag colours incorporated into a top hat and mask. Comment "Why yall gotta ruin everything"
First instagram comment was someone complaining about me queering up Sailor Moon.
That guy knew what he was talking about.
That trilogy is incredible. A great movie, the GREATEST movie, and then one that jumps the shark so thoroughly that it loops back around to being the greatest again. Probably my favorite one. The epitome of the mid-00s. SM3 feels like chugging Vault while listening to Saliva's "Ladies & Gentlemen."
In the most 2007 sentence possible:
"I saw Spider-Man 3 in theaters on a first date with a girl I'd met on MySpace."
17: Sonic Forces - I had a *really* bad feeling about this one from the moment I saw it ("oh god we're doing srs bsns melodrama again, have they learned nothing???") but I figured even in the worst-case scenario, we'd at least get some classic/boost stages of comparable quality to Unl/Col/Gens
uh
07: Diddy Kong Racing DS - Had SO many cool features and accoutrements and upgrades and a PLAYABLE DIXIE KONG, just completely undermined by the DS's limitations and forced gimmicks.
My 1st serious girlfriend broke up with me like two weeks later, and I think it was at least partially Rare's fault.
> What was your favourite game and most disappointing game that year?
Already did favorites, but
97: Sonic Jam! A magazine I'd read in the school library had incorrectly informed me it contained 3D remakes of all four Genesis Sonic games, and I didn't know otherwise until the moment I got it!
That was the year after my new elementary school opened, and they had both a dedicated computer lab and a PC in every classroom. We all wrote an email to the president!
Just 3 years earlier, I was the only kid in my Kindergarten class who even *had* a computer at home, so things were changing fast.
The internet in the 90s was primarily text-based, with some multimedia assets. Even images would appear slowly, loading in a few lines at a time. This GIF is a very accurate historical recreation.
That said, it was growing EXPONENTIALLY year-over-year, and everybody at least knew what it was.
If that qualifies as the "stone age," then you're right. Downloading music (aside from MIDIs) wasn't really a thing until Napster circa '99, and even that was slow. Watching videos was right out. I spent hours downloading the Sonic X-Treme E3 trailer in postage stamp resolution at 5fps.
I've played at least a little of most of them, but aside from some good music, the gameplay is always just so *nothing* that I can't get much out of them.
I thought it was pretty much the most underwhelming way they could possibly handle that dream crossover we'd always talked about, but I was hopeful that if they were doing this, there's no way they WON'T put Sonic in Brawl, right...?
> What game could (realistically) come out in 2027 that would immediately be your GOTY?
He has a cool guitar, allowing me to live the fantasy where I can play a cool guitar that makes women like me.
I like Secret Rings better.
> Is Drake & Josh on GBA actually your 3rd favorite game of 2007?
Hahahaha
Of course not.
It's #1.
(screenshot from my friend group's private encyclopedia of in-jokes - one of the back of the box "features" was "PLAY AS BOTH DRAKE AND JOSH!" and we found that hilarious in 2007)
> Why didn't Zavok have more of a role in Sonic Forces??? 😢
Because Sega listened to ignorant game journalists who didn't understand the appeal of the series, even while us true fans demanded his glorious return. The result? A half measure that pleased nobody.
> What were your first impressions of Breath of the Wild?
I had no interest whatsoever and thought it was just gonna be another Zelda game. I got it because it was *the* launch game. Then it surprised me:
youtu.be/Ht-DswIaDF8?...
> Top 3 games of each year?
(3->2->1)
97: FFVII, Sonic R, Star Fox 64
07: Portal, Team Fortress 2, Drake & Josh
17: BotW, Odyssey, Sonic Mania
You don't ever see it IIRC, but in the S&K video I'm wearing that under the hoodie.
Ask me anything about any year ending in 7 that I can remember!
(That's 1997, 2007, and 2017!)
