Help to Buy is taxpayer’s money mobilised to favour some while those who needed support the most were left behind by austerity-obsessed policies. It speaks volumes about political priorities.
Right to housing and right to property are two very different things.

Taking note of this admirable role model of vision, determination and sacrifice.

Social cohesion doesn't mean nativism and homogeneity.
It requires ending poverty and reducing inequalities.

In response to some governments' insistence on keeping Article 3 ECHR for some undefined 'most serious issues', Rishika Sahgal writes about why and how the widespread and systematic destruction of homes (domicide) is a form of inhuman and degrading treatment. strasbourgobservers.com/2026/04/03/a...
In this innovative book, Koldo Casla proposes that property should be reinterpreted as a social right, arguing from the perspective of human rights and the social function that ownership must serve not only private interests but also the interests of the community. Positing that property ought to be democratically defined in accordance with its social function, Casla articulates a proposal for a new social right to property and evaluates the implications in relation to adequate housing and the private provision of public services, including transport and energy. Global case studies from Africa, Europe and Latin America demonstrate the underlying tension between an exclusivist and extractive idea of private property and the state’s mandate to respect, protect and fulfil social rights.

Policymakers need not make a stark choice between an economy that serves consumers and one that serves workers. Dani Rodrik (@drodrik.bsky.social) shows how policies that favor the latter can serve the former.

NEW: Short-term holiday lets are a major part of Britain’s tourism industry – but many Labour MPs want tighter controls on their number to protect local communities and housing supply. Will the government listen?

Si vamos a hablar de infraocupación, hay que mirar quién vive dónde, y dónde vive quién. Desigualdad y geografía; no media estadística.
The Enclosure Acts allowed fencing of common lands that villagers had used for generations. Something similar has happened in the digital space.
