AI as a Fascist Artifact (This is a bit of a merger of two talks I recently gave about fascism and AI. One was in German at the Cables Of Resistance conference, one in English at the Milton Wolf Seminar on Media and Diplomacy. I added some shots of the slides I used as a structure for the text which […]

In which I argue that "AI" as we understand it today is a structurally fascist artifact.

The next administration must make clear that any immigrant, refugee, or asylum seeker wrongly deported, exiled, or otherwise mistreated by this administration will be readmitted with an expedited path to citizenship. Send a plane to get them.

We can't undo the damage. But we can do something.

Also, we're going to need much better networks to protect ourselves from the right wing's "hate crime harassment for likes" online engagement.

The ‘public trust crisis’ in science largely comes down to ‘scientists tell people things they don’t want to hear’. Applies equally to climate science

i think you can compare many exurban oases across rural america that dot the interstate highway system to florida in that theyre coasting off the fumes of late stage white flight and retiree bubbles

Florida's economy works by converting pension funds into real estate speculation & medical debt. I'm impressed it's lasted as long as it has

Why "No New Taxes" Guarantees There Are More Fergusons The Department of Justice’s report on the practices of the city of Ferguson shows that the city adopted a predatory mindset when it came to its relationship with its black residents. White supremacy i...

"White supremacy in America has always been a vehicle for transferring resources from typically poor black communities to richer white communities....

We see this pattern repeated in Ferguson, where black residents were targeted as an economic resource to fund the city..."

This is also why I check out when people minimize racism as a material & economic interest. Towns keep their taxes low by pulling over Black people. CEOs pump up their stock by selling technology meant to surveil us. Insurance companies meet their margins selling exorbitant policies in Black cities.

if the right is successful, it must be because the liberals possess some fatal shortcoming or overreached in a way that mechanically produced backlash. the idea that the political right is its own thing with its own aims, can harness discontent and take advantage of contingency is verboten i guess

Call it the liar's bonus. The only costs fascists pay for lying all the time is that the media feels compelled to repeat the lies for them, often in the headlines.

One reason America’s non-fascist elites have been so weak in response to fascism is many adhere to a norm that their peers who are actively advancing the fascist project can’t be doing so because they want it, they must be good people with good values who accidentally stumbled into it somehow.

The conservative intelligentsia is just wildly, cartoonistly racist, and the fact that this gets less elite pushback from the prestige media/commentariat than "woke" does is such a damning indictment of our whole society.

The Venn diagram of people decrying the supposed decline of standards because of DEI and the folks who routinely boost racist posts based on obvious lies is indistinguishable from a circle

This is genuinely one of the foundational copes of the modern conservative movement, a stabbed-in-the-back narrative about why the US lost Vietnam

Loving your wife and being a present father is libcoded at this point. The right increasingly valorize men indulging in all their self-destructive, base impulses at all times. It’s the ideology of people in the throes of addiction.

clearly the incentives here need some adjusting

One of my least "liberal" opinions is that some people need, at the very least, a life-altering amount of violence done to them. "Oh you should never respond to words with physical violence." Fuck off, this ain't the Areopagus.

Some low-level maga influencer is currently raising money off the fact that a guy punched him after said maga influencer approached the guy and his husband and accused them of planning to molest their infant child bc they were gay. maga is completely degenerate

Conservatives think the state should protect them from the traumatizing experience of encountering people unlike them. For some reason this never came up in the heyday of “snowflake,” “trigger warning” or “safe space” discourse bsky.app/profile/kiss...

dems created an expanded 'covid' welfare state under trump, republicans strangled it under biden

swing voters credited trump & blamed biden for that respectively

there's a moral here, of a sort

There are large networks of journalists who use private group chats to coordinate and promote anti-trans and (to a lesser extent) anti-gay beliefs and stories.

The one or two group chats that got exposed are the tip of the iceberg. Jesse Singal definitely helps coordinate multiple of these.

American Gentry Local Power and the Social Order

Here’s a modern analysis. Rural areas are extremely vulnerable to capture by local notables. Landowners, the church, company town industrialists, modern petty capitalists, whatever it is. Rural economic activity is not sophisticated enough to provide a material base for pluralistic social life.

I dunno why it took me seeing this 2,500 times today to think of this answer, but at the risk of endorsing the concept of genetic memory, I think the whole "overt imitation of the deicide" schtick might be in play.

My theory is covid lockdowns were the aspiring survivalist and deep right/libertarian trial balloon they've been waiting for and they couldn't hack it

Instead all the evil socialist theories about community, public health, and government assistance actually functioned and they HAAAATED that

again, under trump gop rhetoric has become a relentless stream of hate speech that was once confined to white supremacist messageboards like stormfront and terrorist manifestos like anders brevik's

the staffer class in particular are 4chan style neonazis posting the most hardcore alt-right agitprop

There are ways in which settlement in Palestine mirrors the settlement of western North America, especially as it relates to the symbiotic relationship between settler and army against native, but the settlement process in 2026 is far more centralized than it ever was in 1830.
