Hopefully this plus my own multi-arch kernel, my own FS driver implemented on my OS and on Linux via a custom kernel driver gets me an OS dev gig. I’m not sure what else I could do tbh.

Open to constructive criticism here, of course 🙂

A browser based kernel dev dashboard.

A browser based kernel dev dashboard.

Made a ton of progress on my Kernel Development Dashboard this past week. Everything is working now. In-browser ssh, vnc, log view/search, custom control and query server, QEMU monitor, QMP integration, GDB console and browser-based (good!) GUI.

I feel I’m on to something unique here...

I have a way to get this answered. Calling in my phone-a-friend.

And also...

WTF is with the Mahler 2nd at the end there?

I NEVER picked that up until now. It's absolutely Mahler entering the gates of Heaven for resurrection. If this a legit callout, that is some NEXT FUCKING LEVEL motif usage and musical story telling.

This is blowing my and Katie's mind rn.

All Good Things is such a damn good episode of Star Trek, TNG, and SciFi overall.

We never really did find out what Q was going to say to Picard at the end, did we? Even in Picard S2/S3 we don't get a true hint, I think.

And EVERY time I watch this now, I see more tie-ins to Picard S1-3. So good.

Switched back to my facepalm avatar. Using my real face for it just seems ... weird. 15 years of image use has warped my brain kinda.

VNC, multiple ssh connections, automated connecting/displaying, quick commands all working.

I think I might be on to something here that's more useful beyond my initial scope. Could see this be very very useful for low level tooling dev.

Building my own OS Dev runner/monitor development environment is going well. Learning react again (the hard way) lol.

This has me thinking how trivial it would be to implement an emulated, entirely walled garden, full linux console in a game. Arguably the C# and C++ packages are easier.

Could see a very very nerdy yet totally legit hacking simulator game.

Also it's 2026. CORS is as necessary and maddening as it was in 2016. What are we even doing.

I could see this being useful for linux kernel and embedded dev too. Going to play around with that after my main usecase is working.

Adding build option control, one-click to build buttons, error output, crash data output, log searching, and all that jazz is more or less trivial now. Normally this is a 5 or so terminals open, but it'll be very very efficient to have all the data immediately at my fingertips

Massive tech challenge surpassed tonight (for me, single dev, at least). Got VNC + SSH running *fully* in my browser for very easy management and automation of my OS development.

By this time tomorrow it should look ... exceptional. 😏 Doing an easy UI with Tabler: github.com/tabler/tabler

I walked out of an interview last week where my would-be boss argued with me that vibe coding fucking OS drivers created good enough code.

This brain rot keeps reaching deeper.

This is that same amazing view, but with camera settings set that really show this is a backlit photo of Earth—only a thin sliver of it illuminated by the Sun.

Everyone I know that knows that has similar “huh, that tracks” reactions to one degree or another. It’s gotta be some massive shared trauma.

My dumb factoid I like to whip out is that Jira is derived from the original Japanese for Godzilla (ゴジラ, Gojira).

As an aside… In looking at the code, I see an early version of some crash data collection mechanisms that I would (decades later) own at Blizzard. This makes perfect sense given knowledge sharing at that time (and now tbh), and it connects a few code archaeology things I always wondered about.

Doom 3: C++ enhanced RTTI and memory debugging

Wow. I never knew Doom 3 did this level of memory debugging. Very very cool. Looks to be insanely fast, too. And I could easily see being able to defer any expensive data crunching task until after primary compiling is done.

Great write up, from 2017.

This looks cool. An out of the box (as much as it can be) SSH/Telnet/SFTP WebSocket based terminal front end for any browser, plus can be placed anywhere in the DOM. Includes easy scriptable terminal control. Could be promising for what I need.
