Congratulations again to all our winners and nominees, and thanks all who supported this event celebrating the best of New York.
A fair request… we will try and do that moving forward.
The buildings seen there are the Flatiron Building, the Appellate Division Courthouse (1899) and the former Metropolitan Life Insurance Tower.
Bridges in NYC tell stories. Jason Stein's FAM tour explored a few such bridges on the Harlem River: the Third Avenue Bridge, Madison Avenue Bridge, 145th Street Bridge, and Macombs Dam Bridge.
The tour explored each bridge and its surrounding area.
Andrew Kirschner led members on a detailed FAM tour exploration of the historic Flatiron District. It discussed the stories behind iconic landmarks and pivotal moments in American history and explored the area’s remarkable architecture, influential figures, and dramatic events.
Dave Gardner brought fellow members near Chelsea Piers along the Hudson for a new FAM tour: "Piers and Ships of the West Side-- Before and After the Golden Age of the Steamship".
The tour explored the shifting waterfront, the rise-and-fall of ocean-liners for transatlantic travel, and the Titanic.
On the 115th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire earlier this week, members Eileen Rourke and Debra Wells led GANYC’s annual memorial tour.
The tour discussed the conditions that led to this horrific workplace disaster, which led to the deaths of 146 immigrant garment workers.
GANYC held a new member orientation session yesterday evening, at Pier 57.
We do these sessions once or twice a year to better meet our newer members, and help introduce them to how GANYC works.
If you are a licensed NYC sightseeing guide, we encourage you to apply for GANYC membership! 🍎
GANYC VP Rosemary Shmavonian led fellow members around the Upper East Side last week, exploring connections to Andy Warhol and Truman Capote.
The tour covered the stories of how they moved from young men to successful artists and how they interacted with the monied classes to make that happen.
Laurene Hamilton led an art-themed FAM this past week: "On Basquiat's steps throughout the East Village".
The tour is designed to experience the New York underground that shaped one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century.
Here are some photos of the GANYC Apple Awards.
Thanks to all who made this celebration of NYC such a great evening!

The tour focused on the Ladies' Mile historic district, exploring Gilded Age history.
GANYC member Kat Scaglione debuted a new tour for her fellow members in Midtown: 'Strange And Sensational Stories'.
Designed for visitors and locals alike, this tour brings to life headline-worthy stories including alligators in the sewers, eccentric celebrities with unexpected obsessions, & more.
GANYC members were treated to two tour to a great Garment District business: M&S Schmalberg.
A 4th generation family business since 1916, they create hand-made flowers used in fashion shows, Broadway & by brides. Members got to see demos of the flower-making process from century-old molds.

The biennial World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) conference is taking place in Fukuoka, Japan. We thank all the GANYC members in attendance.
In particular, we want to congratulate our own Emma Guest-Consales for her election to the next Executive Board of the WFTGA!
GANYC members received a guided tour of 'Niyū Yūrk'. The tour was led by Hiba Amid, the NYPL Curator for Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies.
Niyū Yūrk explores the oft-overlooked history of Middle Eastern & North African (MENA) immigration, from the first waves in the late 19th century to present.
As part of GANYC's Certification Course, participating guides create their own unique walking tour. Joseph Knipper's tour was: "How Catholics Became New Yorkers".
Certification graduates are encouraged to give their tour to fellow members as a FAM tour, and we thank Joseph for doing so yesterday.
Thanks @gaofnyc.bsky.social for inviting me to speak last eve at Bklyn’s American Legion lodge about Chief James H. Williams and the Red Caps of GC Terminal. The venue gave poignancy to Wms’s special relationship w/vets, like the Harlem Hellfighters!

The proposed new screening rules threaten to deter visitors before they book a flight to the US, and will push them to visit other countries.
Professional licensed tour guides who are members of GANYC have already reported a major downturn in bookings from international inbound visitors.
