PSA: you CAN airbrush outdoors.

I read so many people saying it was a bad idea but I've had no probs.

I use a folding photobox to protect from wind + contain the spray.

Do use a proper respirator.

Obviously depends on climate of where you live - avoid days with extremes of temp, humidity.

Had some extra time so I airbrushed the following coats, evenly across the model, in the following order:

1. 4 parts flesh, 1 part red
2. 4 parts flesh, 1 part white
3. 4 parts flesh, 1 white, 2 yellow
4. Just flesh

Yes, I'm winging it, entirely on vibes lol

Starting to apply skin colour. Mix was 1 part yellow + 3-4 parts skin tone.

Applied by multiple thin layers, preserving shading from underneath.

Sprayed a light matt varnish over white gloves+leotard as finish is delicate

Also did a (intentionally) messy brush base coat for skin tones (to add depth), which I will spray over

Worked well on last model.

Leotard finished. Carefully painted silver onto elevated surface. Used thinned white to tighten up lines, by letting the paint run along the edges

Might be copium but the imperfections look kinda nice to my naked eye (not on camera phone)

Gloves: finished (I think...). Was very challenging for me to get these lines clean (all done by brush).

Also it's a band of subtle silver (not white) below the black fingers of the glove.

Blotted white on leotard w/ sponge. Then sprayed all w/ more white.

Happy with tone of white. More risks becoming toy-like, destroying the shadows.

Last model I learned the line between "close enough" and "too much" can be crossed quickly. Quit while ahead!

I airbrushed a flat deck tan layer and then started spraying white from above + brown/purple/black from below

The fabric is way more 3D now, but too grey. The challenge is whitening further without destroying the contrast.

Same for her leotard.

Thank you! I intended to airbrush my skin tones and do brush for everything else. But I'm now going to try brush base coat, and then air brush over the top to get the shadows and highlights. I like the convenience and texture of brush, but I won't continue if it's going to make the model worse.

I'm a life long musician and decided that my new project will be hosted entirely on @bandcamp.com - the only platform which seems to understand that generative AI "music" is not music at all.

Day 14/X: 2B by ESM

First colour test. Brushed. Trying for a white that's not too white..

Unhappy with the finish and how 2D it looks. Tried to brush some shadows but it looked terrible so I painted over it.

Might need to do more air brushing than I anticipated on this model.
