He earned his medical degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a Master of Public Health from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Minnesota. He has studied internationally in France, Greece, Germany, and Poland. Jonas is a member of the Minnesota Refugee and Immigrant Writers Group. He writes in Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, and English. He is a 2014 Spanish-language winner of the United Nations’ Many Languages, One World (MLOW) essay contest. What the Ground Couldn’t Shake is his debut memoir.
A huge welcome to the newest member of the SLP family, Haitian-born psychiatrist and writer Jonas Attilus and WHAT THE GROUND COULDN'T SHAKE, his memoir of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the collective trauma and displacement that followed survivors through the aftermath. Coming in August 2027!

It's here! Super stoked for this anthology and to have an essay in it—the first I ever wrote for @marchxness.bsky.social, on the Creatures’ Exterminating Angel, Virginia Woolf, misogyny, and learning to trust myself as a musician. I love this tournament and community, and so glad to be part of it!

It’s time! I am beyond honored my extracurricular essay on how grunge did NOT kill glam metal is included among such stellar work!
The @marchxness.bsky.social anthology is out today! I love this tournament, and I’m so glad to have one of my essays from years past got included: “The Best Christian in the World,” about Creed’s “My Own Prison” and my own fallout with Christianity, among other things. So much good writing in here!
