No shade at all to Kirishima, he's on fire and earned this yusho and promotion to ozeki. I just personally find it a little boring when the yusho is decided before the last day 🤷 But then again, I'm always hoping for bonus sumo via a play off 😂😂😂

Ugh, sumo day 8 just broke my heart and now Seattle Torrent are threatening to do the same 😭

🤼Every basho Hoshoryu has a few "I'm the goddamn yokozuna" moments and Hiradoumi's on the wrong side of this one. Hoshoryu among the leaders at 5-1, Hiradoumi falls to 4-2.

I have this rare condition where I'm unable to hear any criticism of Hoshoryu 😂😂😂

I'm just saying, a lot of folks said that about Hoshoryu too when he got his third loss in Jan 25. I believed then, I believe now 🙏🙏🙏

Listen, call me delusional and you're probably not wrong, but everyone said Hoshoryu's rope run was over when he got his third loss too and a badass playoff win saved it. So just sayin', I think Aonishiki can still do it!

Are we sure we remembered to tell Onosato and his oyakata that yokozuna are allowed to take a basho off to heal without losing their rank? I feel like we should tell them.

MAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN, don't want to get my hopes up too much but things are setting up nicely for Hoshoryu this basho.

Good 2-0 start while both his main rivals Onosato (0-2) and Aonishiki (1-1) have taken losses. Obviously still really early, but can't ask for a better start.

...Thus Hoshoryu gets a yusho and his haters shut the fuck up, but Aonishiki also has a hell of an equivalent performance and gets promoted to yokozuna

My delusional hope for how the basho ends:

Hoshoryu is 14-1. His one loss is to Aonishiki.

Aonishiki is 14-1. His one loss is to anyone except Onosato - he beats Onosato but loses to someone else.

They go to a play off. Hoshoryu wins the play off.

College kiddo, Hub, & I have a routine of watching NHK sumo highlights "together." Kiddo is also my fellow hockey fan.

So getting to see Ura, Takayasu, Aonishiki, & Hoshoryu all win day 1, then immediately turning on the Sirens game & seeing we're up 3-1 after the 1st - we're having a good day 🥰

That was hilarious to me when I saw the schedule 😂 I know it's also just how they're ranked, but JSA has some sense of humor to set the last basho winner against his flag bearer on day 1

(No worries...they're frequent visitors. They're clean, well fed, and have proper collars. So they're loved and cared for, just allowed to roam outdoors most days).
