We need a matriarchy run by lesbians with clipboards and earpieces who do not take any shit.

15 queries, still out there in the world. Meanwhile, I have amassed 8 rejections (one personalised!) and three ghostings, 5 months into this particular phase of the "journey"...
Christianity in the UK is like the good china. You like that it's there, you'd be a bit miffed if it got smashed, but apart from an occasional dusting it's left in the cupboard unless someone very important is coming for tea.
Yes, Whisper of the Heart is SO GOOD. Some of my favourite comfort viewing! 🥰
I am also on my way to Eastercon! 😃
The Merchant of Venice is a political text. Old Man's War is a political text. Star Wars is a political text. Even an instructional design textbook is a political text! All texts encode or challenge assumptions about the world.
THERE IS NO TRUE NEUTRAL POSITION.
I have loved that poem since I first came across it. "Always a boss and never a worker, always a liar, always a thief and never caught." Indeed, and why...
I think the world would be a better place if His Dark Materials had been the one that the millennials went fully gaga over and you’d have 35 yos trailing stuffed pine martens around with them on fishing line instead of wearing gryffindor scarves
A sign says: “I just want to say if you are trans and reading this I love you & so do all my mates”
Sign in a window, Bethnal Green.
No, I am not worried about 'declining' birth rates, I accept them as post-modern birth rates, the birth rates that naturally happen once the conditions are set that children can be expected to survive to adulthood reliably and that women are allowed to be educated and become full citizens.
We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.
Reasons a cis women might have Y chromosomes:
- Twin brother
- Gestating a child with a Y chromosome
- Bone marrow transfusion from someone with a Y chromosome
- Being intersex (we know of XY women who have naturally conceived and given birth)
At the last moment, and nicely symmetrical...

I am sure you know your home hills better than I do, but I love the Mournes. We usually go over for the Mourne Mountain Marathon - plenty of scope for nav there! 😃 Some of the summits are rocky, so maybe some short scrambles too? 🤔 Either way, enjoy. 🏞️❤️
I am sure there is a Scottish equivalent of Tryfan (nice, easy, escapable grade 1), I just don't know it off the top of my head. Scottish hills will generally be quieter, which might be useful if you want to combine the scrambling and nav in one holiday.
Nav skills are probably a separate thing, because the "nice" scrambling routes are usually pretty well trodden. But there are courses!
The principles aren't difficult, it's just remembering to use them when you're damp and tired and fossicking around in a featureless bog. 😆
I am certain there are guides in Eryri that would take you up it - add the Glyderau if you want a bigger day out. 😃
I am a somewhat nervous scrambler, but my first was Tryfan. On which, with good visibility, it's hard (not impossible) to get yourself into trouble.
(Actually, my first was Crib Goch, but don't be me!)
Discworld QOTD, from Wyrd Sisters
Ooh, just saw “without Asimov there would be no science fiction,” and no, you stale crouton, you waterlogged saltine, without Mary Shelley—harassed by her husband and Lord Byron—there would be no science fiction.
You’re confusing fandom for canon.
Yes, talk to Murderbot about its feelings. The idea was so painful I dropped to 97 percent efficiency.
Oh, we really enjoyed Kingdom! 😃 Also appreciated how unfazed their car-park marshals were when we turned up towing a dinghy. 😆
Meme of the absolutely colossal Ever Given ship grounded with a huge excavator that looks tiny working valiantly to try to dig it out, tiny scoop by tiny scoop. Text on the ship says “You are not obligated to complete the work”. Text lower down by the backhoe reads, “But neither are you free to desist from it.”
This Pirkei Avot quote helps me feel a little less like I have to solve everything (it’s literally been thousands of years of people feeling overwhelmed!) and it cracked me up when someone stuck it on the pics of the tiny backhoe trying to dig out the EverGiven ship when it got stuck.
The Clyde until I was 18, the Cam from then until now (with a brief detour to the Exe).
And one day the girl with the books became the woman writing them.
I don't remember where I was on 30th December 2019.
I do remember catching a flight home from Thailand via Singapore in January 2020. There were all these signs telling travellers from China to report to the authorities. "Huh," we said, "how odd. Wonder what that's about." Little did we know...
desinteresse on tumblr: "Honestly being overworked makes people unobservant and passive and it literally kills people every day. People don't seem to realize that an overworked nurse might not notice your sepsis symptoms and a tired truck driver might not notice your car when he's merging into the lane. Failing to protect worker's rights impacts nearly everyone" kiralamouse: "THIS. I want workers to be treated well for their own sake, but I NEED workers to be treated well for MY sake. We have got to stop glorifying eroding margin into the negative zones."
That's really sweet! 😊 Always appreciate a good run briefing - by which I mean one that *doesn't* just sound like a list of rules - but I know it takes effort. As ever, thank you for volunteering! 🏃♀️👏
Trans people aren’t the problem. They never have been.
I do love The West Wing. It has flaws, but I love the sense that everyone in it is trying their best to do something good. ❤️
We really enjoyed Ted Lasso, if you haven't already seen it! Episode 1 is a bit eyeroll inducing (sigh, so many American-in-the-UK stereotypes), but after that it's great.
