I’m severely immunocompromise and I’m stuck in my home 95% of the time. I empathize.

Yes, this is what we sick and disabled people have been saying for years. Now please start wearing an N95 or KN95 to help prevent them from doing so.

If you have had sedation for any surgery / procedure - you have been given fentanyl.

If you have experienced a medical trauma - you have been given fentanyl.

If you have had cancer care, you’ve probably been given fentanyl.

It is probably the most precise, effective medication in skilled hands.

It’s also the only one that touches my pain when I’m having a pain crisis.

If fentanyl gets changed to Schedule I like HR 21 is proposing, healthcare will come to a catastrophic screeching halt. I really need someone who isn't just me to be screaming about this. I cannot emphasize how bad it would be. Worse than COVID and avian flu combined.

If you also have some type of an innate immunodeficiency, then you probably can’t get the vaccine which is my case (and also on immunosuppressants that would be dangerous for me to stop for that long). We are in an impossible situation that should never have happened.

If you are on an immunosuppressant and that is why you are severely immune compromised, it is complicated, but you can do it. You’ll have to talk to your doctor/the drug manufacturer, but likely you will have to strap your medication for any time from weeks to months both before & after the vaccine

The MMR vaccine is a live vaccine. If you're severely immunocompromised and no longer have immunity to measles, getting the vaccine is dangerous, complicated, or impossible. Just try to imagine how continually and increasingly terrifying it is to exist in this world as a medically high-risk person.

If your community never makes you sit in your discomfort or if you refuse when given the invitation to - then it’s not a community or you aren’t a part of it.

How many times have you discarded someone bc they aren't conflict avoidant? Shunned them for being “too angry?” It's all "find your community" & never "communities need to divest from internalized white supremacist BS that causes them to drive the most intensely marginalized, outspoken people out.”

Please remember most disabled people can’t leave. It’s incredibly difficult to immigrate to another country when you have documented medical issues. Many are also too sick to endure a move.

The only emotional experience accorded to me by our violent, ableist society and structural oppression is strength. And when that runs out, the only emotion I am deemed as deserving is pity

I tell people that I’m grieving, but really I’m holding the concept of grief somewhere in my mind, filed away with every other feeling I am not allowed to have.

Grieve? Who can grieve when you’re Sisyphus being punished by Zeus for cheating death and have to roll the boulder of your life up a hill for eternity. That boulder is all-consuming and the last thing it takes from you is the breath you need to scream or cry.

I don’t even have the privilege to grieve everything chronic illness has taken from me and will continue to take away from me because those same chronic illnesses consume every single iota of energy, capacity, mental space, and will to live I have while simultaneously crushing me.

Whenever a friend develops chronic illness, has a bad experience with the healthcare system or faces temporary disability, they say “oh my god I didn’t know it was THIS bad”

They did know. We told them. They chose not to believe us
