Infowars’ endless afterlife The Onion may finally boot Alex Jones from his studio, but years of damage have already been done.

NEW: How exactly has Alex Jones avoided paying the Sandy Hook families a single dime of what he owes? I wrote about it here, and spoke to Chris Mattei, an attorney for some of the families, and Lenny Pozner, the father of the youngest child who died at Sandy Hook: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Pope James David Vance the First The vice president has decided he’s a more accomplished theologian than Leo XIV.

Vance has now seized the top seat in the Death of Expertise Hall of Fame: He has lectured the pope—the pope, the leader of a billion and a half Catholics—about being too sloppy with theology.

The queen of all vices: Pride.

Police didn’t believe a 12-year-old who said she'd been raped. Then she hit record. “If I didn’t find the evidence for them, I wasn’t too sure they would find it.”

As Mother Jones originally reported, Taylor Cadle was 12 years old in 2016 when she told a sheriff’s deputy that she had been sexually abused by her adoptive father, Henry Cadle.

Instead of arresting the abuser, Deputy Melissa Turnage charged Taylor with filing a false police report.

You Can Never Let Them Think They Have A Chance | Defector I don’t remember the first time someone hit on me as a reporter. I believe this is because my brain has come to treat these events as unremarkable. For any woman in journalism, they pile up over the y...

I wrote about Dianna Russini, the constant pressure female reporters face to prove they aren't sleeping with sources (plus the pressure we do get from sources to get involved with them), and why all of this is so uncomfortable to talk about.

A scientist drills a skull in search of ancient human DNA

Until now, scientists have identified only a few dozen variants that went through natural selection in humans in the past 10,000 years. A new study claims to find hundreds--maybe thousands. Here's my story on the provocative research, and the mixed reception it's getting. Gift link: nyti.ms/4tSJH9G

Opposition leader Péter Magyar at a rally.

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people outside Hungary realise.

He systemically consolidated power for 16 years, fixed the electoral map, abused govt power for political purposes & censored media.

The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.

In 2010, the number was barely 10,000.

In China, 1 in 2 new cars sold last year was electric.

The transition is happening faster than almost anyone predicted.

In North Dakota, Utah and South Dakota, legislatures are sponsoring measures on the November ballot that would raise the threshold for approving citizen amendments to 60 percent, not a simple majority.

In Missouri, the legislature placed a measure on the ballot that would set an even higher bar: Citizen-sponsored amendments to the state constitution would have to win in each of the state’s eight U.S. House districts. An initiative that wins 95 percent of the vote statewide could lose if it fails in a single district.

And in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill imposing a raft of new requirements, fees and criminal penalties around collecting signatures on petitions for ballot measures. The result: All 22 initiatives proposed by citizens this year failed to qualify for the ballot.

Did Trump Just Threaten to Use Nuclear Weapons in Iran? If such an order comes to pass, the military can and must refuse.

If Trump does give an order to attack civilian targets that have no military value as a means of collectively punishing the Iranian people - and make good his threat to begin a genocide - Marco Rubio should resign and the military must refuse the order.

Officials began pursuing what they assumed would be a joint investigation into the deadly use of force, which had been standard protocol. U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Daniel Rosen, who had been sworn in three months earlier, was not available, so details were ironed out between Moriarty, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Joe Thompson and state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans.

“We were having an informal conversation,” Moriarty said. “Joe Thompson was saying, ‘Fine, if you guys can work it out.’ I was talking with others, the BCA and the FBI and all of that. We had it worked out.”

All indications were that an investigation was wanted across the board, with signs that federal officials would take the lead. When Renee Good was taken to the hospital, her wife, Becca Good, was interviewed by the FBI. Both Ross and ICE agreed to a use-of-force investigation, according to a person familiar with the decision.

A high-ranking White House official overruled them.

I can't help but wonder whether Trump had DOJ unilaterally declare the Presidential Records Act null and void is to excuse destroying specific damning communications, such as involving this White House official who nixed evidence sharing on Renee Good's killing.
