Been doing some research, and I think Bush v. Gore was decided incorrectly.

Social-Media Advertisements vs. Reality: Postpartum-Clothes Edition Many people are eager to warn you of the body horrors caused by pregnancy, but no one tells you what’s going to happen in the months (maybe years?!) after birth.

I got sick of all the pregnancy and postpartum content that start how this comic does but ended by telling me I should love my body bc the miracle of birth and blah blah blah, so I made this. It's an excerpt from Bury Me Already (It's Nice Down Here)

There is a disturbing amount of computer-based work in elementary school now and it’s just … not good for kids brains, bodies, or eyes

This seems goofy, and I hated doing cursive in school (I got an F!!!), but there is a borderline fine motor skills crisis among young kids these days so anything that gets young people using their hands is actually a net positive

A Ghanian hand-printed Cheers (the show) poster. It's ace and a bit mental. I don't know what more to say.

I also just told this story to @themountaingoats.bsky.social before this resolution and implied my dad was probably wrong but it was I who was wrong!

My dad has been vindicated! And now the fun story I’ve always had about an album I really love has a much more exciting conclusion

1 month ago 0 0 1 0

It was my dad’s house. Woody Guthrie’s old house had been demolished, Billy Bragg and Nora Guthrie had taken a bunch of pictures around Coney Island and this was the site the designer went with (the picture was retaken by a pro)

But my dad didn’t let it go and now, almost 30 years after the album came out … he decided to email Billy Bragg. Who responded.

Anyway I resigned my self to thinking houses just … look alike

This would bubble up every now and then but with no satisfying resolution. Dad said it was definitely his house. We looked at Google street view. That was the movie theater next to his house where my grandma worked, etc

I was like “what?” And tried to help him figure out why his house would be on the cover. Had he lived in Woody Guthrie’s old house? (No). Was he just … wrong??? (That was my guess).

A fantastic album, for sure, but not expected! I asked “dad, why do you have this?” And he said, “that’s my old house on the cover”

And I was rifling through his stuff and among his extremely small CD collection, one was this — Billy Bragg & Wilco’s Mermaid Avenue

Ok so like 20ish years ago I was spending the summer at my dad’s because I had an internship at a NYC fashion mag (which … lol)

also when it is time to do a “big” work, someone with a long history of self publishing like, mainstream fiction, might have a harder time getting their work published by a publisher; a graphic novelist who doesn’t have a history of self publishing will have a harder time without an indie reputation

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

Idk, I feel like it’s because for like half of the history of comics if you drew anything besides superhero stuff there was no other way to get published. There is also an entire ecosystem to support self publishing

Army radioman then electrician (and briefly restaurant owner); Navy enlisted then a whole bunch of random jobs I think - plumber for a hot second? - (and briefly a lunch counter owner)

This is also a route that generally runs every 10-15 minutes, which I feel like is also important context. *several* buses were either cancelled or insanely late

1 month ago 0 0 0 0

I get that buses and trains are going to be late or even cancelled. It sucks but I get it. But it seems like if @septaphilly.bsky.social can put AI readers on trolleys for parking tickets it could at least guesstimate that the bus at the depot is not actually leaving in 2 minutes
