There is a disturbing amount of computer-based work in elementary school now and it’s just … not good for kids brains, bodies, or eyes

This seems goofy, and I hated doing cursive in school (I got an F!!!), but there is a borderline fine motor skills crisis among young kids these days so anything that gets young people using their hands is actually a net positive

My dad has been vindicated! And now the fun story I’ve always had about an album I really love has a much more exciting conclusion

It was my dad’s house. Woody Guthrie’s old house had been demolished, Billy Bragg and Nora Guthrie had taken a bunch of pictures around Coney Island and this was the site the designer went with (the picture was retaken by a pro)

But my dad didn’t let it go and now, almost 30 years after the album came out … he decided to email Billy Bragg. Who responded.

Anyway I resigned my self to thinking houses just … look alike

I was like “what?” And tried to help him figure out why his house would be on the cover. Had he lived in Woody Guthrie’s old house? (No). Was he just … wrong??? (That was my guess).

A fantastic album, for sure, but not expected! I asked “dad, why do you have this?” And he said, “that’s my old house on the cover”

also when it is time to do a “big” work, someone with a long history of self publishing like, mainstream fiction, might have a harder time getting their work published by a publisher; a graphic novelist who doesn’t have a history of self publishing will have a harder time without an indie reputation

Idk, I feel like it’s because for like half of the history of comics if you drew anything besides superhero stuff there was no other way to get published. There is also an entire ecosystem to support self publishing
