Read the UN report. Paragraph 28 will destroy you. And haunt you for the rest of your life.
Part of me is really angry that it has taken this long, that it had to reach this point. But anyway. The reckoning will come later.
All these CFPs in my inbox make me realize that some colleagues aren't as afraid to go to the US as I and some other colleagues are, and it sucks to be reminded of that difference.
To be buried where enslaved people were once buried. In a rite attended by migrants, refugees, ex-convicts, and poor families rather than heads of state. Witnessing to the message of the Gospels until the very last. "Whatsoever you do to the least of these, you do unto me."

Your Holiness, thank you, and go home now to rest in the loving embrace of the Father. Pope Francis, pray for us!
Tickled pink that someone whose work I admire (from afar; I've never met them) asked me a for a copy of something I wrote. 😊
Pleased to see this SI of Studies in Philosophy and Education, guest-edited by Janet Orchard and Gerry Dunne, about global philosophies of teacher education:

Isn't it time to think of moving the United Nations out of the US? Why not move it to Asia - perhaps Singapore?

One of those really good days at work. Thoroughly enjoyed a full day with the rest of the research team, workshopping our papers. (And EXTREMELY grateful to the folks who came by to give feedback on mine.)

I wonder what percentage of philosophers who say that liberal democracy is 'the best system there is' or that other systems/philosophies 'don't give a damn about individuals' have actually read any non-Western or non-capitalist philosophies. #actualquotes #batubatosalangitmatamaansanakayo
- workers, and lawyers who have borne witness and worked so hard to record, listen, comfort, befriend, and heal. /2
Hoping this brings some measure of solace to the family of Kian de los Santos (aged 17), Christina Padual, Myca Ulpina (aged 3) and the thousands and thousands of others murdered by that brutal regime. May it also bring some peace to the journalists, photojournalists, priests, human rights -
It was a difficult paper to write, and a difficult lecture to give (thank you, INPE). doi.org/10.1080/1744...
It was a pleasure working with Stella Micheong Cheong and Kamille Beye on this paper. Here's to all the people around the world who work for peace and justice. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
that he was losing by a landslide. I wonder what happened to those brave men and women, and I wonder where they are now. /4
For me, the decisive turning point of February 1986 was when 30 computer technicians bravely walked out of the Comelec center and said they would not be complicit in Marcos' massive cheating in the Feb 1986 snap election, especially as the citizens' count clearly showed 3/
If I were telling the story to the next generation, I'd tell the story a bit differently: not a story of morality, but a story of what it means to vote in and live in a democracy. I would say that the legitimacy of the EDSA revolution was because of the mass cheating in the 1986 election. 2/
The narrative around Philippine history since 1985 has morphed into a narrative between two 'sides' along a political divide, or even two families. In some people's version of the narrative, the EDSA revolution is a morality play, and its legitimacy lies in it being a triumph of good over evil. 1/
while parish priests and community workers quietly held the hands of those who were grieving. In 2016, and in 2023, the world looked/looks bleak. And I honestly don't know if there will be a reckoning. But names will be recorded. And stories will be told. /2
2016. D/ut/s' drug war in the PH had just begun. Everyday, there was another set of names. Another set of stories. The pain was searing and unrelenting. But journalists and photographers - they promised to keep recording, to tell the stories of the dead and mourning, 1/
I just really hope there is a heaven where those children and their families are surrounded only by love and peace.
A hospital run by the Church of England, incidentally. It shouldn't matter, of course. But I wonder if that will change anything.
