Yeasss!!! I saw this!! Love it!!!
Our project team that created a free, open-access Spanish language curriculum centering Black learners and Black populations in Latin America was awarded a $150K NEH grant! Congrats to our PI @deborahgomezgomez.bsky.social and co-investigators @clemonsaris.bsky.social @melissabaralt.bsky.social!
😳😟😡
Note to self: Don't worry about the weekly plans for now; focus on the first 15 minutes (or more!) of the first class after winter break to build community, create an affinity space, and lay down essential foundations and courtesies—that's what matters most!
Each year, I simplify and combine some horoscopes for my students. They love it! Check out the post here: marishawkins.wordpress.com/2024/12/30/h...
You and I could write a book on this 🤣🤣🤣
Love that idea!!!
If you are in a teaching context that is hostile towards terms like DEI, diversity, etc. we can change our language.
Linguistic diversity? No, linguistic accuracy.
It's more accurate to portray diversity as variety, accuracy, authenticity.

Diversifying your curriculum is not the same as decolonizing your curriculum.
Yay!!!

Your well being is important and is the foundation of everything you do. You must take care of yourself during these stressful times or you cannot hold onto your joy.

ACTFL president @proferandolph.bsky.social emphasizes that creating learning environments that use language as liberation can happen at EVERY language at EVERY level. #actfl24
Same!
Learning a second language helps students liberate themselves and opens the world.
-a teacher in a video @proferandolph.bsky.social shared in his opening remarks at #actfl24
I encourage you to boldly center the culture, history, and narratives of marginalized communities in your classroom.
