A mild Saturday afternoon take: A lot of Bowie's much-maligned 90s output is actually pretty cool! The aspects that might've felt trend-chasing at the time now land more like a time capsule and his songwriting remains full of bold, unexpected choices.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.

I wish Marvel hadn't been involved in this at all, but otherwise, this is a nice development for the legacy of a man who was abused (by Marvel, and others) a whole lot in his lifetime

We’ve also been listening to the Rankin/Bass Hobbit soundtrack. The movie’s a bit weird (haven’t shown it to her yet) but the music is A+

I’m reading the hobbit (illustrated Jemima Catlin edition) to my 5yo now and she’s loving it. If you haven’t read it in a while it’s easy to forget how much more accessible/fun it is than LotR.

Technically she started with the local kids theater production which piqued her interested, though.

This is a great opportunity to read one of my favorite comics- it's full of heart and care and depth, and it really understands what I love so much about the character. Superman is an immigrant story, and Superman Smashes the Klan says that's a story for me. Extremely thoughtful work! Read it!
