For the first time I'd say the pretext ecosystem has the infrastructure to engage as a legit vendor and not just as a scrappy open source tool. HMU if I can help you

Let me know if PreTeXt.Plus can help. We link to UW on our homepage to point out the inadequacies of even tagged PDFs. ๐
There are public SLACs (Montevallo in AL) but I really should have been more mindful of our two year colleagues like @cmuirmath.bsky.social

Actually he's just rolling his eyes
Thanks Mitch. R2 isn't that different. And if the SLACs are doing better, it's damning for us, but doesn't change the fact that we have an opportunity now that didn't exist last week to do real good to help our colleagues who serve very many real people.
satisfy automated checkers but without providing materials that are actually digitally accessible.
Will some people kick the can down the road? Sure. But this gives us more time to figure out workable solutions that will avoid what @clontz.org suggested people are talking about: not putting
Literally last Friday I talked with a dozen faculty who said "oh this is happening?" These are good people who want to help students, but just didn't get the memo. Another delay would be catastrophic, but this delay is wise.
I think this is very context specific. Communication of the requirements was terrible. AMS had a webinar just last week to address this. There's a very real issue that people will think we're crying wolf, but the net is still positive with a delay to let people of good faith get their act together.
What I'm seeing in my context is folks deciding to simply stop posting anything online, which is worse for everyone. The delay gives a chance to recover some of these folks by giving them training and easy to use tools to replace their current habits.
Lol are you monitoring my email?
But I do think the extra year will improve the scale of good faith implementation vs cyclical compliance and non compliance.
jaws huh
It got much better when my colleague grew out his hair lol
My department has two white Alabama born dudes on faculty in their late 30s involved in a lot of teaching learning activities (I am one of those dudes). We eventually realized that we had a mutual colleague whose interactions led us to believe he always assumed we were the same person.
Here's the full details. I look forward to working with the rest of the @mathtech.org community to support faculty in implementing these changes, but appreciate the extra year to get it done well!

A lot of colleagues at my regional public have thrown up their hands and made this their plan. I'm hopeful the year will give folks time to train and prepare faculty to find tooling and workflows to support accessibility and not just focus on compliance.
This is the right decision and very welcome news. Working to make digital accessibility a requirement of public institutions is important and correct, but the one year extension will allow everyone to do things "right" rather than rush into compliance.
As I walk through the valley as I harvest my grain
I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain
Has anyone done this for oeis.org/A000040 ?
Has any assistive technology figured out 3D yet?
#MathSky peeps interested in AI:
Participants in the Milestones for Autonomous Math Research (icarm.io/project/mile...) will have some remote office hours tomorrow (Fri 4/17) to onboard people interested in the project.

By popular demand, institutional licenses can now be purchased at PreTeXt.Plus/subscriptions
Please, if you can pip install things, don't pay money for open source products! But if your office mate just wants to Start Writing, we're here to help! Basic/free tier is pretty good too... #MathSky
Claude et al don't understand why your image is important for your students; these slot machines cannot write alt text that makes your figure accessible.
I have been talking a lot about accessibility in Math course materials, and the answer is NO you SHOULDN'T use ChatGPT to write image descriptions, I don't care if you think it's hard to write them.

Lots of cool work being shared in the @amermathsoc.bsky.social accessibility call. Of course, here's my favorite. PreTeXt.Plus
It was much faster to write a single question and share the output with PreTeXt.plus than it would have been to make a new project or edit an existing one, rebuild the whole thing multiple times (a good argument for not using any significantly large existing project), commit, sync, and deploy!
Guess who found a bug that I should have waited on a review to catch (it's @oscarlevin.com )
