Basically, they're balloons in the purple division that mostly provide frontloaded power often for cheap, but bring with them some kind of downside to deal with that's either immediate on play or persists while they are present.

More recent sketch illustrations as I've been working on the newer color division in the game. these are all of a class of balloons that are aeromorphs, none of them are final designs save for the blimp.

Came out well in the end! and interesting how the folks in this area are totally unphased by the presence of these giant mechas.

I suppose the two are either local guardians or just citizens in their own right?

I get a version of that particular dream too often as well, where the acceleration gets stuck and the brakes don't work so I have to steer a car that gets faster and faster without crashing into anything.

Somehow I do it but it's distressing to hit the brakes and nothing happens.

if I had to name a comparable game to the idea, it'd probably be Yu-gi-oh capsule monster chess, a more chess like game where the goal is getting your pieces to land on the player.

So I briefly toyed with the idea of a strategy game using flat standees in tabletop simulator, and taking advantage of their state changing to do expansion of units. these were crude sketches of a yeti balloon that I did for the experiment.

These 3 are bigger spellbeasts, larger ones are named after various magic spells in fantasy media and act as embodiments of that spell.

These 3 are all named after -aga spells from final fantasy, you can probably guess who's who.

So these 4 are spellbeasts, balloons in purple modeled after Evocation spells that also act like them, in that they show up quickly, attack fast, and disappear after taking action as they are cheep and fragile balloons that pop easily.

They are Fire, Frost, Ice, and Lightning Bolt respectively

I started to consider also having Rock monsters in gaiaspawns. there's the usual craggy and angular rock beast of sorts but then I had the idea of doing something inspired by tumbled stones. where you have vibrant, colorful, and smooth rocks that would translate to balloons better.

They're sort of weird to conceptualize as they're supposed to be these rigid things that are also soft and malleable balloons, it's interesting to figure out though.

A green balloon that draws inspiration from the piranha plants from Mario sunshine, the ones with the inflating bulbs. this was the first one of green's 3rd balloon class, "Gaiaspawns".

The aesthetic direction with them is still being sorted out but I began with plant creatures.

in the game of sentient balloon dodgeballs, they act as flying dodgeballs that can freely glide into and pursue opponent.

One of these images is no longer in use as that balloon got turned into a dog.
