"The 'Decline to Revise' link moves your submission to the Declined Revisions folder. Please use this ONLY if you do not intend to submit a Revision."

by analogy, suppose that someone built a machine that can make soldiers' beds in the morning. ideally, it lets them sleep in and improves performance. but the military obsession with bed-making evolved to incentivize and select for conscientiousness that carries over into other tasks.
take the perfunctory literature review in every paper. it's slop. but traditionally it forces the author to somewhat know the literature. when an AI writes the lit review, there is no signal and no forcing the author to learn anything.
the modal output is beside the point. the rigamarole of academia (mostly writing/reading human slop) keeps a community knowledgeable about something. this can counter popular lies and sometimes produces big insights.
sort of inflammatory but some good food for thought here. having been involved with a lot of LLM-for-academia stuff, i think this take is missing something big.

we'll get a 144 room "graduate" hotel next year. a plan in the works for 151 housing units, including townhomes, nearby. but unfortunately the pedestrian experience from the homes to the downtown could be better.

champaign's downtown has lost a lot of businesses. restaurant costs have gone up, and gen z drinks/goes out less.
apparently to maintain a downtown you need more nearby residents than you used to. fortunately we are upzoning near downtown.
