Here's a throwback from the first days after we brought Archie home to rule over us.

This is what I found online. This is a first for me to find the milkweed completely stripped.
In just 2 days the Monarch cats have defoliated the milkweed. π¦β€οΈ
How awesome is this?!!!
You go, girl!
Funny story my family still tells:
I grew up on a farm. Mom didn't have time for many flowers. She bought a huge bag of glad bulbs & stored them until Spring.
8yr old me found them & planted them behind the granary, obscured from view. I was so proud later to show her my blooming garden.
I likey!! (Not the frigid temps, but the lovely verbena).
As blooms to age, they can get ratty looking, so just deadhead and the succession plantings fill in.
My glads from previous years' plantings are 6" high now. New ones breaking ground.
I sometimes have to stake them with bambo due to wind.
I'll have leaf blades with bites, most likely grasshoppers (?), but usually after the blooms are on their way out.Plant glad bulbs every 2-3 weeks for continual color.
Thank you.Gardening is a learning curve for sure. Been on this LONG curve for almost 50 years.πStill learning every day, but never heard of pre treating glads. Maybe I don't have the same pests in my area?? Glads are one of my favs. Good childhood memories of my great granddad's garden.I plant many.
My husband helped dig the holes for the shrubs and trees. I'll plant the little stuff tomorrow. Going to go find my Tylenol and a long, hot shower. Everything hurts. π€£.
This getting old is getting old!
Hopefully π€ last chance of frost tonight, so I can get more veg planted this week.
Flower/shrub bed topped with dark, rich compost.
After a pickup load of topsoil and several wagon loads of my homemade compost, I'm almost ready to start planting. If my πͺhold up. Might be the last year this old lady can keep up with this back breaking work. πͺ π³ #gardening
Mine started as a volunteer 3 yrs ago.It has only spread about 6", so keeping under control. Toxic to little Georgie girl, so I wouldn't plant it in your yard. Commercial nurseries might sell it, but it may have pesticides on it. A local native nursery sells pesticide free varieties.

I counted 28 on this milkweed!
Rose
Dianthus were not affected by the 16Β° freeze we had
Wisteria
The deep freeze we had a few weeks ago did a lot of damage to many setting buds. Everything is blooming much later than usual, or not at all. Roses, blooming trees, & wisteria were burnt badly. Instead of covering our pergola, we had ONE bloom this year. 1st rose bloom is misshapen.π’

Pet your dogs, everyone, and appreciate that they have no idea what is happening in this fucked up world.
