Just looked at End of Aid series. Impressive & heartbreaking. I will read it when I have some time. My idea for today's story was to look at what happened through the eyes of USAID workers who settled in Maine, hoping that would bring readers to the topic who otherwise would skip over these stories

These federal workers lost their jobs. They’re starting over in Maine. Former aid workers, whose careers took them around the globe, are carving out new opportunities across the state.

I met amazing people who worked on USAID projects, like access to clean drinking water, Amazon rainforest sustainability, renewable energy and reducing malaria, HIV and other diseases. @claricesnarling.bsky.social @chrislhayes.bsky.social @nbcnews.com @kff.org www.pressherald.com/2026/04/16/t...

That’s right the older kids used LB and FI as “keep the kids busy and not bothering us” babysitting You probably made popcorn for the kiddos

Fantasy Island was the treat for slogging through Love Boat. I don't know why we felt compelled to watch LB, like it was a pre-requisite to watch FI. Maybe if we stopped watching TV, parents send us to bed? Or maybe "That's just the way it was." @claricesnarling.bsky.social @tlazarczyk.bsky.social

They wanted to sing Summer Nights with their friends, that's why.....Now you're going to ask me why Darth Vader got to be forgiven and hang out with Obi-Wan & Yoda in the afterlife despite blowing up planets and choking admirals to death. My advice is to stop thinking. @claricesnarling.bsky.social

I could see a compromise: 18 games, but NFL players can play in max of 17 reg. season games. If your QB is healthy all year, the backup has to play one game. Considering all the injuries in NFL, what % of players play in every game now? Increase roster size slightly to sweeten pot for NFLPA

Yep, a mom's COVID shot during pregnancy protects her baby, a large study finds A 3-year study published in Pediatrics examined newborns in Norway. It found a clear benefit for the baby when mom gets a COVID vaccination during pregnancy.

"There are a number of studies that show one of the benefits of COVID vaccination during pregnancy is the passage of antibodies to the newborn, and then that protects the newborn against COVID"

I feel like Fred Armisen as Weird Al pretending to be the Rock would be the ultimate Weird Al biopic. Although we already had the Weird Al biopic, the one where he dated Madonna. We need the sequel.

Not sure of the legality of this, but I think I heard someone float the idea of using turnpike toll revenue for the state highway system. Maybe that's illegal or they'd have to pass another law to do it

What are your thoughts on the argument that raising gas taxes (or any sales tax) is regressive and thus hurts lower-income folks more. Not a "gotcha" question or for any story, I'm just curious what you think of that line of argument.

I asked President Trump about the FBI reportedly seizing election records in Arizona. He said they must have done that because it was a “rigged” election. I pointed out to him that his own AG said there was not measurable voter fraud to overturn that election. Then he called me a rotten reporter.
