Hey @katerblossom.bsky.social saw this game about audio engineering and thought of you

The first thoughts on PRAGMATA you won’t read anywhere else:
👎 Click to run
👍 Pauseable cutscenes
Oh also the advertising billboards of an imagined future culture 👍
Can an update be GOTY
Were there *any* good games on the Virtual Boy? A few, actually. Here, Patrick Ehlers of the Nintendo Cartridge Society podcast tells you about one of them, and the design sensibilities in it that we can still see today.

“You come at the King, you best not miss”
They’re not kidding.
I talked briefly about the excellent soundtrack to this game in episode 038. Now, you can listen to it everywhere you want and you should listen to it anywhere you can.
I saw the download size of the demo and thought no way am I uninstalling Tetris 99 for this man. Now I’m on holiday and there’s no chance this WiFi is up to the challenge.
It’s not like I’m gonna be able to get Tomodachi Life off my kids anyway.
The reviews have been pretty crazy. None of the footage in the video reviews I’ve seen has sold the appeal to me, but so many people I trust have said great things about it, that I think I’m in.
Anything from @gamedeveloper.bsky.social, specifically by @bryantfrancis.me. Not especially recent, but their reporting on Probably Monsters and the way Harold Ryan has been running the studio really stuck with me.
Me: Pragmata? Not really feeling it thanks.
Tom Regan: “It’s like The World Ends With You”
Me: Hey Capcom here’s my money
Was making breakfast on holiday when this dropped and that escalated to scrambled eggs punctuated by several rounds of musical statues
The Virtual Boy is a time machine. Take a trip back with Patrick Ehlers of Nintendo Cartridge Society.

Aww, thanks! Made with love for this truly deviant piece of gaming history, and I’m hoping to get the excellent Patrick back on for another, entirely different *thing* another time.
Basically on a tour of the coin pushers of South Devon and my RACCOIN style build breakers are ice cream, rain and slyly kicking the devious little money bins as hard as I can.
Guessing because of the reliance on touch screen? 🤷
Thanks for the shout guys 😍
I mean all their games are good but you should definitely buy “Nobody Saves The World” immediately
There’s so many great lines in the piece that, even though I understand what this game is and isn’t, gave me a good idea and framing on how to appreciate it. So, thank *you*!
I’m getting this game because the demo was fine and because it’ll be insane watching my kids lose their minds on it but now I’m actually excited about it.
“…your job is to play the role of a shit-stirrer out to manipulate an unguarded simulation until Nintendo is forced to issue panicked emergency patches.
I love this writing.

I pined for it. They called my bluff. Now I have to reckon with the reality of the Virtual Boy.
A trailer for episode 039 of Dialogue Tree, starring Patrick Ehlers of Nintendo Cartridge Society on the black sheep of Kyoto’s console.
