“I see this as a continuation of what I tried to do all my life: democratizing code, systems, knowledge. LLMs are going to help us to write better software, faster, and will allow small teams to have a chance to compete with bigger companies. The same thing open source software did in the 90s.”

greetings from @openvibe.social, crossposting to bluesky and nostr ✨️

hey mosh, thank you for the advice and support since ipfs connect 2023! i guess i will try contributing to the ecosystem with product-first efforts because protocols and EVERYONE need killer apps!

thanks for the reply, agree on the identity part especially. key rotation and global discovery maybe necessitate components like PDS, DIDs, feed provivers etc. 🤔

you are right, here is my take:

thanks a lot to everyone who kindly replied! 🙏🏻😇

as a newcomer, i feel more sure now going product-first and focusing on the problem.

for me the way forward is build the minimum valuable experience, then listen to the community for integrating another protocol or new extensions as needed.

yes! also i learned a lot from your posts. subconscious was a great experiment. i am getting to understand the basic concepts, history and philosophical approaches of each thanks to you.

public chats like this one right now are enlightening, especially hearing your opinions, thank you very much!

- is why email became concentrated;
- is why ActivityPub, as defined today, isn't capture-resistant.

i agree, also i think that relays can't be "dumb" for a sustainable network :( there will be different implementations and "smart" ones will win eventually. farcaster's hub implementation as supernodes, also snapchain seems like a good move for that regard. nostr has to eventually catch up!

its simple and subtle protocol design really captured my nerd brain 😅 all atproto, nostr and farcaster has their own unique features; since nostr is conceptually the minimalistic one, building with it first then adding integrations is the way i guess.

yep! identity part seems challanging, really would like to explore that, maybe extending the protocol without breaking it to build something similar to atproto DIDs, name registry, key rotation, service discovery etc.

"decentralize till it hurts, centralize till it works" isn't evil, right? 😁

the stance on money (native crypto support like tokens, embedded chain wallets, micropayments etc.) is also something makes me doubt ATP as *the* fundamental building block, considering what i need for my app.

wondering if it will be transformative to build a "framework" around nostr, like atp.

hey bryan, thanks a lot for all the comments!

i watched this too, wanted to clarify in my head a bit more. even took screenshots of slides, i think @snarfed.org did an awesome job with this talk 👏🏻

i see the shortcomings of nostr and was wondering if it's possible to compliment with atproto etc.

yes, i totally agree! just figuring out a way to unify accounts safely in a decentralized, user-owned approach; without breaking UX + simple auth.

i won't just build crossposting or a new client. social primitives are good enough in protocols, but i can't decide which one to build on principally :/

identity part seems to be the hardest to fix. trying to get inspo from farcaster and atproto whitepapers/specs. will go with product-first and extend the nostr as its the raw-est.

10 months ago 1 0 1 0

i've been digging docs and chatting with deep research llms about social/dweb protocols for last weeks, clearly no need for a new one, yet each has a component that makes it interesting for me to build on, but composing would just copy all cons without the pros.

10 months ago 3 0 0 0

- do you think atproto has enough?
- is it possible to fix identities without breaking the prococol in nostr? because we are delegating too much to a service provider in atp IMHO. i get that keys and wallets have a hard UX.
- could a PDS spec for nostr make a difference for reusable personal data?

so atproto maxis what do you think about this?
tell me what do you think makes nostr suck.

is there any place here for intellectual conversations about protocol stuff?

today i learned nostr community see farcaster as casino because it supports crypto yet they are bitcoin maxis who worship lightning network 🤷🏻‍♂️

nostr is the ultimate decentralized protocol and should have native crypto support. sad to realize ppl caught up in tribe mindset :/

as they say, best ones are always 144p 😁

last spring i performed @ entropy pub in istanbul, was my birthday and lost the original photos unfortunately.

so had to do some editing & AI upscaling on screenshots from a video by venue crew. i will learn lightroom next, much fun!

Here I talked some 101 stuff on decentralized apps, protocols, Bluesky, Nostr, IPFS; on a reply thread in Turkish 🇹🇷

But I truly recommend @gordon.bsky.social's blog "Squishy Computer" for insights about why & how can be built on decentralized web.
