Saw a panel at AWP where Carmen Maria Machado addressed the (fucked up) idea that since some people struggle with creativity, generative AI makes art more accessible. Her response was *chef’s kiss*

I’m paraphrasing but the gist was: art is supposed to be hard. Creativity is a muscle. Use it.

Can we please stop calling it generative “AI”? There’s nothing intelligent about stealing the work of artists and regurgitating voices and language that took 20+ years to develop. ChatGPT and Claude, etc are not assistance tools for creativity… they’re Plagiarism Facilitators. Let’s call them that.
