WIND IS ALIVE AND KICKING🔥🔥🔥
40% more wind was installed in 2025 than 2024

I'm sceptical that shaving off some fraction of systems costs by using gas power will make a material difference to prices, considering how expensive gas itself is.
Also if you talk about the cost of renewables without mentioning the game-changer that is BATTERIES you haven't done your homework
Why are we seeing more and more EVs on the roads? Because in a lot of places (now including the UK!) they're reaching price parity with ICE cars.
Range anxiety is also falling away as battery life gets longer and as charging infrastructure pops up everywhere.
Nothing to do with electricity prices
Is there any evidence to suggest that bringing the price of electricity down sends people scrambling to buy EVs and heat pumps?
These are big investments. The up-front cost naturally influences purchasing decisions more than running costs. This is why governments subsidize purchases.
If I understand this piece, the climate case for 'cheap' rather than 'clean' power 2030 seems to be:
Build fewer renewables, burn more gas ➡️ save money on systems costs ➡️ electricity becomes cheaper ➡️ people switch from ICE to EV, gas boilers to heat pumps
Hmm...

Asia is willing to pay top dollar for US crude to guarantee security of supply
This means that oil prices will continue to rise in the US, unless the administration does something radical - like restricting exports
You wouldn't bet against it...

Maddening to see the EU giving way on this. We desperately need to slash methane emissions
Yes Europe needs US LNG, but the US LNG industry also needs Europe. 68% of volumes went to Europe in 2025 (EIA)
Could the EU have held the line?

And there we go again!
UK Navy, together with Norwegians, foiled attempts by Russian submarines to survey the routes of undersea cables in month-long operation.
The world's attention may be elsewhere, but the shadow war in Europe continues.

A massively important trend for Germany's resilience to future energy shocks
Energy security is an equation requiring that supply meets demand (h/t @mcbrisbois.bsky.social)
Swapping gas for electricity in heating is an energy security strategy
European power prices are split since the US-Iran conflict. Gas-reliant markets like Italy and Ireland have seen high prices (€140/MWh) while renewable rich regions including Spain, Portugal and Sweden see far lower prices (€40/MWh).
These are average wholesale daily prices (8am to 8pm).

Nuclear is an important part of Europe's energy mix, but it's certainly not a silver bullet solution to our severe dependence on fossil fuel imports

What you hear a lot in the UK - including from people who should know better - is the reasonable-sounding "we're going to be relying on oil and gas for a long time to come"
Going to start a new Electro-Yuan thread since its
1 catchy replacement to petrodollar choking at Hormuz
2 China's role in electrotech is about to surge.
"China’s cross border payment system hit an all time high in volume yesterday..over 100% growth compared to the Feb data"

And if reports of surging interest in solar panels, batteries and EVs translate into sales, as elevated oil and gas prices push people to alternatives, the future will be even rosier for China's clean tech giants
The value of China's clean energy tech exports rose 44% in Jan-Feb 2026, to $41 bn. That's an increase of $13 bn year-on-year, equal to a third of the increase in the country's trade surplus, which reached a new record.

Agreed. And the places worst hit would be Democrat leaning anyway (East and West coasts). Honestly I could see Trump going for this. Likewise for gas which was pushing up US electricity prices even before this self-inflicted crisis
Wow - so the US attacks on Iran send European energy prices sky high.
Then its EU ambassador tells Brussels to ratify the Turnberry trade deal with no amendments or else lose favourable access to US gas

Posters from early in the Ukraine war (spring 2022) - let's take the sentiment to heart this time around.
I should say that this was just one of many good points in @robinmills.bsky.social excellent piece for the @thenationalnews.com which you should read in full (free once you sign up)

indeed they could and it would not surprise me if this comes to pass. those who voted for 'America First' would quite reasonably expect it but the US oil and gas industry would hate being prevented from profiteering as global prices surge. we'll see who wins out...
Why the US being a net exporter of oil won't protect Americans from price shocks:
- Oil traded on global market
- Low fuel taxes means rise in price of oil has bigger relative impact at the pump
- Average American very reliant on oil: minimal public transport, fuel-inefficient vehicles, few EVs
@adrianhiel.bsky.social I meant to ask - where did you acquire these fine garments?
we're all going to be learning about energy markets & contracts like we learnt about derivatives in 2008 lol
This - and the other things too

hence the choice of the ridiculous caricature Hegseth as 'secretary of war'
This isn't appealing to globalized big capital, but no reason it wouldn't appeal to the petty bourgeoisie you mention, who love Trump for Trump, and are (or feel) insulated from the effects of his foreign shenanigans
