We should demand better

But they are multibillion dollar markets driven by a handful of billionaire companies

And they keep the industry churning with research funding, sponsorships, conferences & studies

So essentially ID just follows the money

This isn’t a conspiracy

It’s just the way the ID world
works

And CHG is just one example

Other examples include:

Hand hygiene products

Daily chemical disinfectants

Neither will ever eliminate or even meaningfully reduce HAIs

Frontline clinicians follow guidelines, not primary literature

"SHEA says CHG” is both a clinical decision & a liability shield

Infection control programs never ask whether the guideline reflects the best science or the best-funded science

There’s a difference

Often a profound difference

So HOCl has 20+ years of compelling data but no large-scale trials

Guidelines can’t cite trials that were never funded

The people taking that money write the SHEA/IDSA guidelines

The guidelines codify the market

Govt doesn't do their part to publicly fund trials

And no CFO funds an RCT for a molecule anyone can manufacture tomorrow at commodity cost

So why is CHG still a standard of care?

Marketing

Sponsored trials

Funded senior clinician networks

Industry grants to ID programs

Conference symposia

Presentations

Social events

Dinners

Education sessions

Etc

CHG-impregnated dressings maintain prolonged high-concentration direct skin contact

That’s the exact condition under which CHG destroys the skin barrier and creates wounds that are chemically hostile to their own healing

This is not rare

It happened to me & to others I know

CHG can’t penetrate biofilm

It’s cytotoxic to compromised skin & wound tissue where you need it most

It kills keratinocytes & fibroblasts required for healing

It’s spawning resistance in S. aureus

It’s a 1950s molecule

But it’s a billion-dollar market

Hypochlorous acid is an excellent antiseptic

Likely the best

It beats CHG hands down

Your neutrophils make it

It kills bacteria in seconds

It penetrates biofilm

It's non-toxic to tissue

It costs almost nothing to produce

But you can’t patent it.

And there's the rub

This is my arm 6 weeks after a 3M CHG-impregnated PICC line dressing

Still not healed

This is what “standard of care” looks like on sensitized skin

The infectious disease industry has a CHG problem

CHG is promoted as the best antiseptic

But it’s not

It's just the most promoted antiseptic
