Happy March 15. Here is my favorite Ides of March meme:
Bodily autonomy nonnegotiable. abortion, transition. raised fist.

My program and position were eliminated after 20 years/tenure at a pricey private college…but I landed at a community college with great colleagues, transparency and equity, and a deep commitment to access that does not waver with market trends. My book is going to a press I actually enjoy!
Extra depressing is seeing the scholar’s work-in-progress book project referenced in author bios for what I’m positive would’ve been an excellent and important work in the field
Man, one of the most depressing aspects of modern scholarship is finding a great article and then looking up the scholar to see what else they’ve done and just catching a glimpse of an abbreviated career hopping between visiting positions and publishing great pieces before disappearing from academia
Fancy plate of Sun-dried tomato gnocchi with cheese sauce and a bed of fresh greens
Amazing meals at the Iowa Culinary Institute with my new colleagues is a MAJOR perk of moving to DMACC! It’s a delicious way to support our talented students! #DMACC #IowaCommunityColleges #CommunityCollegeConvert
Black and white photograph of a modernist elementary school building in the early 1960s with showy concrete flared awnings
The low red brick architecture at DMACC’s Ankeny campus felt familiar as soon as I got there…but it took me a while to realize it reminds me of Addams Elementary in Cedar Rapids. We used those concrete block “shades” to climb onto the roof after hours! #modernistarchitecture #Iowacommunitycolleges
Asking the same question ((for a friend 😬))
They really hold the ink and function well!
A glass fountain pen dipped in green ink, a journal page that reads “Focus on: Stability. Shoring up, grounding, breathing” with a sketch of “tree” yoga pose.
A sharp angle down on a clear post-it note that says “You were Bored” stuck to the white trim on the right side of an antique bedroom door (slippers, espresso cup, and bulletin board in the background).
The note I left to remind myself why I taught 4 courses yesterday…although I’m absolutely wrecked today. Welcome to the shift from #neoliberaluniversity to #neocorporateuniversity
This how it feels to be the last member of #teamrhetoric at an institution only investing in bankable majors.
Journal with notes about teaching focus today (“RELEASE”), alongside the Eight of Cups from the Sausuraibito Tarot by Stasia Burrington
Teaching word for the first day of the semester: Release. Disappointing is the best case scenario. But syllabi would be a good look for day one.
Writing desk with journal, fountain pens, book, and tarot card: The Magician. Journal entry about FEAR of writing and the prompt word “mastery.”
Writing Word of the Day: Mastery. Feeling anything but masterful.
