I've always been annoyed by certain mentalities, shot calls, etc that lean heavily into executing some kind of theoretical perfection from your own side and I think the reason why has always been this. 99% of the time what is or isnt a good play is contextually based on what the other team is doing.
Playing vgc in pokemon champs has simplified my understanding of a general comp concept that applies to splat too.
Denying your opponent options/win conditions is as important, if not more, than setting up your own. Have a solid baseline of tools on your side, and otherwise it's all counterplay.
