They only have a small circle of trustworthy people and they all are a bit weary by this point. Their personal life is in turmoil too with Malcolm’s paternity test results. But they have each other and their relationship is solid. I bitched about not connecting with some characters earlier this week but when Cole has the reigns you sure won’t be disappointed. Whether it’s romantic love or emotionally intense sex or familiar love or friendship - you can connect and feel it all. Yes please and thank you. Can’t wait for the next episode. Friends to lovers, most nonchalant queer-awakening ever, size-slut (Seth’s words not mine). ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3: Rhett - WH photographer & Calix - Chief of Staff. Age gap, first time. The romance felt somewhat forced and the word “sweetheart” was overused to the point of being cringey. ⭐️⭐️ 4: Denali - WH junior butler & Milan - the president’s brother in law & Asher - Secret Service agent. Polyamory, DS dynamics. A bit repetitive and on the nose. Rather fast escalation from fuck buddies to serious relationship. ⭐️⭐️1/2 5: Kenn - the president’s son & Warrick - professor, hired to tutor Kenn for law school. Age gap, daddy kink (no age play). Slow burn. I didn’t feel the emotional connection between the guys even though it was repeatedly told in an eager manner. ⭐️⭐️ Here’s where I’m taking a break from this series. The plot still intrigues me but it progresses in a glacial pace. The smut might be ok with a different narrator and fewer endearments but the romances after book 2… Something just didn’t click. Ziggy is traumatized by his childhood to the point he seldom speaks, found his place in this odd town where he works as an electrician. Kennedy inherited the weird town with his brothers and now they’re trying to renovate the place and turn it into a luxury vacation resort. After a while sparks fly between Ziggy and Kennedy but Kennedy always falls too hard and too fast and all his previous partners called him clingy and overbearing, so he’s trying to play it cool this time. His brothers give him “good advice” on the matter. A great example of how things go to shit if you try to change yourself to please someone else. Especially if the other person actually wanted your true self in the first place. Sad and heavy with surprisingly many misunderstandings for a Saxon-story, luckily those get resolved relatively quickly. HEA with emotionally intense spicy times, a sprinkle of humor too. Lust morphing into love when these two start trusting each other. Not really overly dark story, spicy fantasy with humorous elements and sarcasm and a sprinkle of action. A few times I got a bit frustrated with Luke fucking things up but all in all an entertaining story. 2: Sylvan: An elven prince banished from his home realm after being tangled in the assassin attempt against the crown prince. Currently flipping burgers on Earth. Hawk: A human man on the run after escaping imprisonment. Together they are a big hot mess and after entering the Nightmare Realm, Sylvan’s bruised ego urges him to make bad decisions and things go absolutely FUBAR. A bit darker than book one but still light enough (IMO) to be mostly categorized as romance/ romantasy. Major personal growth by both parties. Jake has been forced to out himself and resign from the police force. His marriage is also over. When decades old remains are found in Adrien’s shop he hires Jake -now PI- to solve the mystery and of course he can’t help but meddle in the case. 6: Novella. No murder mystery but a missing person case. Adrien and Jake’s relationship gets a conclusion and a hard earned HEA. Finally 🧡 Wow - this series is best binge listened. There’s no fluff and the HEA takes a very long time to come. The characters are realistic in their imperfections. Delicious sarcasm and the spicy scenes are emotionally intense. The mysteries are excellent and everything is well written. Highly addictive and I had trouble pausing for a few hours of sleep. Adrien flees to his inherited ranch and finds a dead body on his driveway. From there on things escalate and after Adrien ends up in hospital Jake appears by his side. And stays, being his obtuse and dickish self. Even after their relationship turns intimate Jake refuses to admit he’s not all that straight. 3: Adrien can’t avoid being dragged into life threatening situations. His employee is involved in the occult scene and bodies are piling up. Jake’s horror of being outed as gay makes the arrangement between Adrien and Jake implode and Jake’s temper explode. Well written, suspenseful stories, and like I’ve gushed so many times: Josh’s dickhead MCs make me scream in frustration while salivating for more. Slow burn and the HEA is evading these guys, at least for now. Bitter history plays a big part in the events. 2: A demon has entered the town making its residents sleep deprived and aggressive. Someone is killing people who claim to be witches. Xander and Lorne face waking nightmares while struggling to save the world and their own lives… and they are supposed to plan a wedding in the middle of all this. 3: A novella. Although he is a bit morally ambiguous, he’d rather read books than rob banks. And dream of August, the Superhero of the city. Together they compliment each other and soothe the loneliness that comes with their superpowers. The first two books are obnoxiously hilarious. There are of course some sad elements - it’s written by Alice after all, but mostly insane shenanigans while saving the city with their ever growing band of brothers and a mix of weird superpowers. Book 3 is still funny but a whole lot heavier, fallowing Asmodeus with his dark past and dubious profession and Ellison - an uptight Superhero official with a heartbreaking childhood and a deadly secret. I nearly sobbed a time or two. After slow burn start some surprisingly spicy bedroom activities. If that is not enough, then there’s the player / referee conflict of interest. Add to that some less desirable personality traits and the obstacles keep on piling. So, wee bit heavy and sad. 8: The falling-for-the-bully trope always makes me apprehensive. Although Connor wasn’t “an active bully“, my petty and vindictive side wanted Parker to seek revenge while also feeling sorry for Connor. Talk about whiplash. A lot of personal growth happened in this book and soon I cheered for the guys to end up together. Surprising twist in the end. Sentence that stuck: ”…need to be a palatable gay to appease the straights…” 9: out-off-the-closet story. Novi isn’t afraid of what the fans or the NHL thinks, but for the safety of his family in Russia, earning a reputation as a homophobe. Colby is out, but coach dating a player is a no-no. Book One: predictable, including the mandatory douchenozzle manager. Book two: I think there should be a maximum amount of misunderstandings per book because at some point you’ll get an overdose. Same thing with the endless wallowing. Book three: maybe later 🤷🏻‍♀️ To end things on a positive note: after the “straight” guys realized they might like the D, they didn’t freak out too much. And binge listen forgoing sleep… Well written story that tugs at my heartstrings with all the freaking feels. Multifaceted characters, excellent world building. Spicy times with intense emotional connection. Heavy and dark AF to the point I nearly lost my faith half way through the third book… If you’ve read the Monstrous series and loved it, this should be right up your alley too. No monsters (except personality wise) and just one couple, but the same heart wrenching twists and turns the poor bastards have to endure to reach their hard earned HEA.
