Did I say he was evil? I don't think he is. I credit him with being the first PM since Brown who wouldn't have jumped right into this with the US. But I do think he needs to take a firmer line on this than he has been.
It is possible to criticise without wild hyperbole.

Looking at you Starmer
Or are we just going to ride on the hope that "he doesn't really mean it", or "someone will stop him"?
Because we've seen that he typically does, and they won't.
What he does do is chicken out when presented with a united front.

A poster from the European Greens which is a stylised painting of a woman in green with a tool-belt installing insulation between loft rafters. Behind her is a blue sky and yellow fields, with houses which have solar panels.
Main slogan: "Isolate Putin, insulate homes".
There is also a small slogan, "we stand with Ukraine" at the bottom right.

Heroism, horror and the ‘pits of hell’: inside the last days of El Fasher Over two days in October 2025, up to 10,000 people are believed to have been massacred; a further 40,000 civillians from the Sudanese city are still unaccounted for. This is the story of what happened

Extraordinarily powerful report. A reminder that our “allies” the UAE have been the central element in support of a genocidal war in Sudan.

We should reconsider the term „energy crisis“ when speaking about the effects of the Iran war.
This is very specifically a crisis of fossil fuels and their single point of failure. Fossil fuels are no longer synonymous with „energy“. We have other, better options.

The best time to have invested in renewables, walkable cities and transit to avoid the oil crisis shock was twenty years ago.

The second best time is today.

I suppose they couldn't use 'dropped in the sea off a cross-channel ferry' as that one had been done before

Also, good news from Paris!
What Anne Hidalgo has done is incredible - clean air and bikes everywhere. I'm so glad her legacy is safe.

never again want to hear that it’s woke nonsense to want our energy to come from the sun rather than being completely at the mercy of Putin or the IRGC being annoyed

🌎️ | NEW REPORT: The net zero "backlash" is a myth. Voters still back climate action, but politics and media are telling a different story. Our new analysis with Persuasion UK explains why and how we fix it 👉 www.ippr.org/articles/apa...

see?
here's the thing. A lot of people are like, the earth is fucked, it's beyond salvation, it's hit the tipping point, but time and time again we see that if we just fucking fixed the problem, it rebounds so incredibly fast. Imagine what could be done if people actually cared

Good thread. Most reading this are likely enraged by Israel and the US's actions, but we need to take care with how we respond, and what info we read and share.

They’re telling me a great empire will be destroyed if I attack Persia. Even the oracles who don’t like me very much, very nasty, they all said to me, “Sir, it’s one of the great empires, and it’ll be destroyed. And all because you attacked Persia.” That’s what they’re telling me.

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy.

This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis.

44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.

A lot of folks seem extremely eager to outsource the work of being human, and I just have to ask: What are they all doing instead? What is more important than doing the work of being human?

Wouldn't it be nice Tice and Oakshott who are trapped in Dubai used this experience to reflect on how quickly anybody can be forced to flee their home. Maybe realising that not everyone fleeing conflict has their millions but I somehow doubt it.

A mad king’s illegal war on Iran is a cry for regime change...in Washington | Will Bunch Democracy really did die in darkness as Donald Trump’s unconstitutional war on Iran stamps America as a dictatorship.

My instant reaction at 3 a.m. yesterday was not whether Khamenei would be killed or oil prices or anything else but this

This undeclared, unexplained war is illegal. Full stop

28 hours later, it is still the worse abuse of power in U.S. history. Impeach
