Note to self, when giving public talk tomorrow, do not refer to portrait on slide as "This Fucker"

It's very much too late Friday afternoon to be tolerating Tudor MAGA nonsense, let alone that in secretary hand with everything indexed as various kinds of "traitors."

When I was 12 it was my turn to lead junior school prayer. I didn't want to. But we got to pick our own Bible verse to read. Baby Vicky not being so dissimilar to adult Vicky and it being 1995/6 you can guess what "Bible entry" I went for. I was never ever again asked to lead prayer.

Two students stand either side of a Meeting in the Middle conference poster holding up a Towson University honors college pennant.
Today my @towsonu.bsky.social students presented their Honors College research into historic shipwrecks at Meeting in the Middle undergrad research conference! Proud professor moment!

In a country that took the humanities seriously, way more of the medievalists you’re seeking out to explain Avignon would have actual academic jobs.

"Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience; benefits eligible. The salary range is $5890-$6620 per course ($41,230-$46,340 for seven courses), based on degree status and relevant teaching experience." What is with these $40s pay ranges?? Wages are going down while CoL keeps going up

Gave a public talk. Somehow refrained from calling Edmund Spenser "Tudor MAGA".

Oscar-winner Ryan Coogler recalling how a college writing professor pushed him to become a screenwriter & the possibility of #Sinners being taught in film curriculums someday:
“I have so much respect for professors…for dedicating their life to future generations & making sure their minds are solid.”

I had an asthma attack for no reason in the Folger reading room. Thus I can only conclude that Edmund Spenser is trying to kill me via dust motes. He seems the sort.

AI is of the Internet and thus incorporates the worst of online. Here it is describing my next door neighbor's lovely little cat as a "raccoon." If we can't enjoy our chonky kitties without prejudice what hope is there for humanity?

Graphic with text that says "five things that rabbits are not. 1. Toys
2. Easter decorations
3. “Starter pets” to teach children responsibility
4. Low maintenance pets
5. Inexpensive pets.
Rabbits are a significant commitment! They live
10-12 years and they are delicate animals with highly specific dietary needs. They also require a lot of room to exercise and play. They’re prone to many ailments which require expensive specialized vet care." There are photos of three rabbits down the right side of the image.
Easter is coming... 😔🐇

Also, did the vermin laws apply to Ireland? Yes, I can follow this up, but it's just a lot for what will end up half a sentence.

Some days are just sitting staring thinking about something that's ultimately at best a short paragraph in a book. Today I'm pondering the thousands of fox skins imported from Ireland to England in the 15th and 16th centuries. And just...why?
Surely there were enough foxes in England for fur trim?

Yes! My students collaborated with a local museum last semester with an option being research-based short films to connect with an upcoming exhibit. Every semester I have students make tiktok-style shorts to convey something about their research

Last year I had a student say this when they used AI. I pressed them on who their friend was that they provided them with fake citations and they said they were a more senior history major (caught student was a sophomore).
