Fascists and Nazis hate history, and historians; but understand the power of history. Thats why, across the world, they work so hard to control HOW we tell stories about the past, to drive out diverse critical voices and perspectives, to ensure a narrative that makes them look good.

You have to hand it to them, someone said "you literally couldn't make this app worse" and they took up the challenge with gusto
It's also been amazing observing at kindy, how the boys in our daughter's age group would happily push the baby dolls around in prams and engage in pretend care, until those messages - not instinct! clearly the words of adults in their lives - start coming in. "That's for girls". WHO TOLD YOU THAT
We're doing another re-watch of The Mentalist and it's really striking how frequently and un-remarkably Patrick is shown smiling, playing, and talking seriously to children, it's never pointed out but it's so clearly a core part of his character and gives him such depth & complexity
You. Have. To. Give. Voters. Something. To. Vote. For.
Yelling. At. Them. That. This. Is. All. Their. Fault. And. That. They. Owe. You. Their. Vote. Will. Not. Motivate. People. Who. Sat. Out.
You. Need. To. Incentivize. Them.
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

And of course "but not everyone likes spinach and silverbeet" isn't a valid counter-argument because, um, are you suggesting poor people should be allowed to enjoy things??????? Heresy!
Wellington folk, keep an eye out for this guy. They’ve been searching for him today and he’s still not been found.
Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.
🔵 Stay inside if your home is safe and avoid non‑essential travel.
🔵 Never walk, swim or drive through flood water.
🔵 Evacuate immediately to higher ground if flood waters rise.
🔵 Do not wait for an alert if you feel you are in danger.
🔵 Clear drains and gutters if safe to do so.
It’s a broad low not overly deep, but with bands of rain/thunder storms within it. Impossible to predict exactly where the rain will fall. What has changed, is the scary amount of rain falling, huge precipitation in the atmosphere in any low pressure system now, thru evaporation via warming seas
Palantir are about six months away from ordering their employees to leave audio logs scattered around their offices
Middle class people have to tell themselves the poor are too stupid or indolent to simply grow a lettuce, or they'd have to face the reality that the system is broken and unnecessary
Any VUW community folks on here, campus is now completely closed including for teaching for the rest of the day *and* all day Tuesday. Go home, stay home, stay safe and dry!
NZpol is split between those who love the orphan grinder and can't believe you'd question its benefits, those who insist we must accept it as a sad necessity, those who claim they don't like it but won't actually do anything to stop it, and those who want to smash it but don't make it sound fun
The Torment Nexus but more old-timey
@3mbg.bsky.social was just saying this morning that we need a politician who can make smashing the orphan grinder look fun
The thing about 'blue-green' is that it's become clear sensible economic policy is not blue
I have wondered about the logistics of inserting the phrase "AI is bullshit" into enough different texts and platforms that the machines decide every text needs to pivot to explaining why AI is bullshit in the second paragraph
We're going to be like those people who put on geometric face paint to avoid facial recognition software, developing new tweaks and jimmies to identify the text as handcrafted
Or not because that bubble is poppin
I hate to sound anything like the "wake up sheeple" losers but genuinely this stuff is designed to maintain the status quo, and I wish we were better at being a bit critical, a bit sceptical, but THEN turning that into celebrating the cool funny weird REAL things that are all around us
Why don't we question the fake posts about different countries or cultures or history or our own lives? They reinforce ideas about how things work. They make us feel smug and superior. They tell us the world is a safe and predictable place (but also full of horrors so CONFORM. OBEY. BUY MORE STUFF)
This isn't just an anti-AI-slop post, I've been on this horse for years, but I wish our current conversation about disinformation really made people THINK about the stuff we repost or believe at face value. It's not just about being complicit in spreading bullshit, it reveals our ingrained biases
... are your 3.75s on another WIP? But also KEEP IT UP GOOD JOB don't ask how many WIPs I have
No it wasn't, multiple posts on Reddit suggest it's somewhere like Massachusetts. Please check things before you repost nonsense.

But that's fine, you can just have two hats on the go!
I just want to note that have yet to come across a single academic who studies sexual violence who uses “consent” as a solution/framework for addressing it.
I personally think it’s one of the least useful ways to spend time discussing causes of or how to address sexism, misogyny, or violence.
Title: How I Assumed "The Last Five" Years Would Go with Patrick Bateman from American Psycho and text reading "Impressive start, Cathy. Let's see what Jamie has to say." Second title: How "The Last Five Years" Went with Anger from the movie Inside Out looking angry with the text "CATHY DID NOTHING WRONG."
