As he starts to drift off, he feels the the bed shift again, then a warm voice by his ear, the one Hawks knew was coming.

"Hawks, they /are/ yours."

Hawks lowers the volume and plays it again, "You know, I think they're even more beautiful than mine were."

Silence follows. It's comforting and unrushed.

Enji sighs, kisses him on the temple and settles in for the night, safe and mostly whole, his back bare of any sign that they existed.

Except they did.
