Thank you! I really do need to work on cross posting better!

according to @opsenheimer.bsky.social : "Just a friendly reminder that Kevin McGonigle is currently tied for 8th highest fWAR for hitters."
I love how often Kevin McGonigle has hit 2nd. There’s 15 instances of a rookie aged 21 or younger getting 300+ PA (about half a season) in the 2 spot. That includes 3 guys who hit 10+ HRs: Frank Robinson (27), Bryce Harper (20), Gene Freese (10).

It started because I was curious if guys had higher/lower acceleration causing the end velocity to be different from what the batter might be expecting.
Tarik Skubal's and Joe Ryan's 4-seam fastball velocity and acceleration on the y-axis over top of a histplot for all pitches thrown in the AL Central in 2025.
Not sure who this would entertain, but here's a quick plot between acceleration on the y-axis and velocity. On top of biomechanics and ML, I've started looking at the physics side of baseball as well. This is Joe Ryan vs Tarik Skubal and their 4S. The histplot is all pitches from the AL Central.
For is for any #baseball or #biomechanics fans out there!
Two pitches in sync side point of view.
Here's a side view using the exact same data.
I do have high quality GIFs, but they were over the size limit and I couldn't post them.
Hey there! Been a while, but I come with a custom GIF that I hope works on here. Basically it's using Driveline's biomechanics information and it shows 2 pitches thrown in sync with each other from the catchers POV.
Dillon Dingler is just the 7th Tigers catcher to hit a home run in the post season. 1 more and he ties Lance Parrish for 2nd all time, 2 more HR ties Alex Avila for most.

I always wonder that. I’d think the 1968 hitters would be completely clueless as to what Skubal is throwing and wouldn’t be able to catch up to any of it. So he would fare much better than McLain. But it’s also so hard in general to do that, they both might be exactly the same!
If Tarik Skubal gets 3 more starts and averages 7 IP per start, he’s can give up 2 runs to end the season with an ERA less than 2.00 on the season. Would be the first for a Tigers starter with 20+ starts since Denny McLain in 1968.
If he keeps every 5th day he faces Miami, Cleveland, Cleveland.
My jinx streak broke! 😂
The #Tigers are 17-7 (.708 Win%) this year when leaving 9+ guys on base. That’s the best win percent in the league.

They are 3-0 when facing Minnesota with that criteria this year!

Bigger curse — the #Tigers are 358-5 in their history when leading by at least 7 runs through the 4th!
Let me curse the win really quick.
The #Tigers this year are 26-1 when leading by 3+ runs through 4 innings. That’s the most wins with that criteria.
Tigers starter to get a start with 7+ IP, 0 BB, and 0 ER within their first two starts:
Troy Melton

Yep! I get that it doesn’t make it any less frustrating for most, but still.
They absolutely have! But it’s a reason for hope still. This is a horrible stretch, but they aren’t the first team to make it far with this bad of a stretch.
I don’t know if this makes anyone feel better, but the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers had a span where they were 1-12 and went on to win 104 games and make the playoffs. Even made the World Series.
7 other teams did so and made the playoffs still.
He came out of nowhere for me too. My gut feeling is he was called up to see what he could do in a short stint to either get a more fresh arm for a few games or to clear his roster spot sooner. Moving him out of Toledo opens the door for Troy Watson who was promoted.
I really would love to see Seelinger get a shot. He’s done so well across multiple levels and for a few years. He deserves a shot to show what he can do.
But yes, all those guys as well. Throw Owens in there as well. As well as a trade!
Yeah. I’m guessing both spots are currently at risk. Not sure who takes them, but someone will.
Geoff has 2 appearances with Toledo. Got 6 whiffs on 8 swings with his slider in those two appearances.
He's also tied with Jackson Jobe for 5th most 99+ MPH pitches by a Tigers starter since 2008. It's a pretty small list though as he's just the 8th to even do so.
With that 7th K, Melton ties 5 others for the second most Ks for a Tigers pitcher who made their MLB debut.
Not his best outing, but it's not all bad!
Pitchers since 2006 to have 6+ starts, 36+ IP, and a 31.0%+ K%-BB% in a single AAA season:
Troy Melton
Can’t wait for his debut tomorrow.
Will Vest is just the 11th guy to have an appearance that has:
1.1+ IP
4 BF
2+ Ks
0 hits
9 or fewer pitches
(Jarlin Garcia had 1.2 IP because he was able to get a double play on the first batter he faced)
He’s the 3rd to get the save!

They absolutely rolled the Tigers. What a statement by them.
