Yeah, it’s weird being a foreigner here. If I go to the bank I always take 3 forms of ID because it’s just the strangest system, and they will ask for at the very least 2 every time.

My boss just called me into the office “did you go to the bank this morning?”
“What?”
“They called me, to confirm you worked here”

Are you fucking kidding me, I put money in my account, which sent shockwaves through the fucking banking system in Taiwan, and my ATM card wouldn’t work. Crazy.

33 mins 3 forms, 2 IDs and questions on why I deposited money into my own account on Friday. Just to get my ATM card reset so I could take money out. FFS Taiwan banking is a joke.
Cashier was genuinely surprised I wanted to use my bank account at their bank. A bank account I’ve had for 4 years.

No the whiskey is for the evening, the breakfast beer is for 9:30am although tomorrow I’ll be at the bank, I’ll probably need a very large beer or whiskey after that.

There are a group of old ladies near the bus stop I’m at, exercising to a dance version of Ode to Joy sung in Chinese.

An escalation of political warfare by the PRC ambassador Xiao Qian in the national Australian media.

Disinformation, misrepresentation, and a new explicit demand to accept in silence Taiwan's annexation and its catastrophic consequences.

I’d take Brennan, better finisher than Elanga, and Hutchinson will be better than Elanga in the long run. Brennan can cover The centre forward position if needed.

they can film and send as a line message to parents so they can see their children enjoying class, whilst stressing at home or in a buxiban about how much work they have to do.

I posted this in response to my son and elementary school students I see on a daily basis being given 10-13 pages of homework on a daily basis, teachers explaining for 10-15 minutes on how to do the work and then assigning as homework, so the class can do other projects like doing presentations that

Bottom Line

Homework is not academically beneficial for elementary students.

But:

Short, low-stress, meaningful tasks -especially reading - can offer small benefits.

Non-Academic Benefits

When homework is light and meaningful, it may help:
Build responsibility and routine
Encourage good study habits
Allow brief practice of reading or math skills

But only if:
• It is short,
• Not stressful,
• Well-explained,
• And not busywork.

Equity Issues

Homework can increase the gap between:
Students who have supportive home environments, quiet space, and resources, and
Students who don’t.

This makes homework unfairly beneficial to some and harmful to others.

Stress and Well-Being

Research consistently reports:
Homework can cause stress, tears, arguments at home, and sleep issues in younger children.
Parents often end up doing too much of the work, which makes homework less useful educationally.

• Benefits start to appear in middle school and increase in high school.

Why so little effect for young children?
Their attention spans are shorter.
They learn more effectively through direct instruction and hands-on activities.
Many tasks are simply repetition that doesn’t deepen understanding.

What the Research Says

1. Academic Achievement

Little to no improvement in test scores or grades
Large meta-analyses by Harris Cooper (a leading homework researcher) show:
Homework has almost zero effect on academic performance in elementary school.

But it can offer some non-academic benefits if assigned properly.
Below is a clear, research-based summary.

This is a long one- Research on homework for elementary school students (roughly ages 6–11) shows mixed results, and most experts agree on one key point:

Homework has very limited academic benefits in elementary school.
