Happy summer solstice from the Scottish highlands ☀️ 🌾
A handheld wooden spindle whorl, with some hand spun flax yarn wrapped around the spindle shaft. The background is processed raw material flax fibres.
Finally started spinning the flax - it’s been on my to-do list for a while!

One of the worlds most ancient traditional crafts – the processing of flax, hemp and nettle bast fibres – has been placed on both the endangered and resurgent list by the heritage crafts charity (UK), 2025.
Sharing again here as love everything about this! It's visually stunning, beautifully curated, informative and thought-provoking - placing the Antonine wall within its landscape and community context. Well worth the watch. The Antonine Wall: A 37 Mile Landmark

Hand crafted Spindle whorls arrived in the post, ready to try my best attempt to finally spin the flax I grew & processed from seed. A job for once we are settled into our new home, but I’m excited to see how I fare with this next step - I have never spun flax before 🙈
It’s certainly an interesting discovery the Conan stone! It presents so many potential lines of enquiry. So much still learn about the area too! Certainly plenty to be excited about (Pictish etc) research wise!
Fab presentation! Interesting possible boundaries Fiona is mapping for the Ros & Moreb regions (Moreb inclusive of a section of the Firth & running north on the terrestrial coast towards Golspie). Also plenty more thought-provoking points & food for thought! Well worth the watch! #picts #medieval
This is fabulous! Much appreciated, thanks Claire ☺️
