Nice to see another paper from the @jonmcgavock.bsky.social lab on urban cycling. This study looked at if cycling-specific active transportation was sensitive to The Fresh Start Effect, with people being more likely to cycle to work at the start of the week. ijbnpa.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

When you are listening to @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social on pseudoscience and the "expert" doesn't actually do any research and before I can roll my eyes the Scientific Director of the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) @CIHR calls is as "Brian from Edmonton".... Too awesome.

I still need to read the supporting data, but I'm struck that the framing is not "treatment of people" but rather "the People putting forward their own questions & agenda." Ethical principles in aDNA work (in part b/c of Indigenous researchers' activism) are maturing. cc: @nativebio.bsky.social

Such a cool and important paper, both because the science is rad and because the treatment of people and data is just. Super neat 🧪

This was a productive episode to do since I remain with the thought that the most important area of science we can be engaged in today is the science of scaling, or the science of using science.

Some Texas cities are running out of MMR vaccine. It’s good news in that it means people are realizing the importance of vaccination. It’s bad news in that it signals an issue with ramping up MMR vaccine distribution, hopefully temporarily. I wonder if RFK Jr. will do something about this?
