Nice to see another paper from the @jonmcgavock.bsky.social lab on urban cycling. This study looked at if cycling-specific active transportation was sensitive to The Fresh Start Effect, with people being more likely to cycle to work at the start of the week. ijbnpa.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....
Last week, Native Bio's Research Director, Development Director and Executive Director were lucky enough to be invited by @jonmcgavock.bsky.social @chrimanitoba.bsky.social & FNHSSM and Taylor Morriseau to help with an #IDSov training for the Natives of Manitoba. They gifted us this beautiful art

Timely release as Dr. Guyatt is giving the Dr Henry Friesen Lectureship Mon June 2 in Theatre B. @umanitoba.bsky.social
When you are listening to @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social on pseudoscience and the "expert" doesn't actually do any research and before I can roll my eyes the Scientific Director of the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) @CIHR calls is as "Brian from Edmonton".... Too awesome.
Lt. Gen. Jay Silviera is a credit to the United States!

I still need to read the supporting data, but I'm struck that the framing is not "treatment of people" but rather "the People putting forward their own questions & agenda." Ethical principles in aDNA work (in part b/c of Indigenous researchers' activism) are maturing. cc: @nativebio.bsky.social
Such a cool and important paper, both because the science is rad and because the treatment of people and data is just. Super neat 🧪

This was a productive episode to do since I remain with the thought that the most important area of science we can be engaged in today is the science of scaling, or the science of using science.
The UN Human Rights Council has just officially recognised plastic pollution as a threat to human rights. Here's a look at how plastic disproportionately affects Indigenous Peoples - and how they're fighting back dialogue.earth/en/pollution... @dialogueearth.bsky.social

New paper from the PACE lab.
A systematic review and meta analysis of natural experiments of new cycling infrastructure on levels of physical activity, active transportation and cycling traffic. Summary: they work!

Traffic stops are one of the most common civilian and police interactions. Does race influence such interactions?
Our new paper published in @science.org using a rideshare data set shows that there is considerable racial bias. Paper can be downloaded here: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Some Texas cities are running out of MMR vaccine. It’s good news in that it means people are realizing the importance of vaccination. It’s bad news in that it signals an issue with ramping up MMR vaccine distribution, hopefully temporarily. I wonder if RFK Jr. will do something about this?
