The thing about Amazon is you do not need to shop there. Other places will sell you pet treats, khaki pants, and eyedrops

It's always "trying to bring about the rapture" and never the part of the bible about eliminating all debts.

If they were really serious about biblical teachings all loans (including credit card debt) would be wiped at the end of seven years

Actual office policy that has cost me good coworkers
"Excessive Absences identified as 3 occurrences of unexcused absences within a rolling 4 week period. Dr Notes are still “unexcused absences” though you do not accumulate points for those absences."
Then lose ability to use Dr notes for 3 months.

In case you’re just waking up, the U.S. has teamed up with Israel overnight to start an illegal war of regime change, apparently on a presidential whim with no involvement of Congress, and they are already committing horrific atrocities.

The North Carolina organizers of Moral Mondays built a broad coalition (labor + faith + civil rights + enviro + LGBTQ) using sustained action to beat back the extreme-right—and they offer real lessons for resisting Trump’s anti-democratic crackdown now.

Watching the Epstein class retire & resign instead of being fired and losing their golden parachutes is one of many things making me mad right now. Men w/power & $ get to retire while their victims have been excluded, fired, pushed out with no plush safety net. The wisdom and skills we have lost...

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you deserve kindness and support when you are having a rough time. You are not too much, and your needs are not too much. You're just human like the rest of us.

Ah, the dilemma of "restricted gifts." Churches have always dealt with the spector of financial control through designated gifts. I have seen it go very badly for everyone. #churchfinances #stewardship

Begging priests to resist the temptation to include diet talk in their Lenten sermons. That’s y’all’s Lenten discipline this and every year.

Just to drive home the point: Research into misinformation strongly suggests that you do not repeat lies, even to debunk them. Don't quote tweet or screenshot lies. Paraphrase or say someone said something false or objectionable, but repeating lies helps to spread them.

Single Friendly Church | Encouraging churches to welcome and value single people

www.singlefriendlychurch.com might be a helpful resource. At least offer some solidarity?

As a childless unmarried (though currently dating) 40something it has been hard, with the caveat that I also have the "ordained minister" thing. It also is part of why I value multigenerational events so much.

Alright bsky science + art community, I need your help.

I was p confident we could get a grant to fund our upcoming biodiversity mural in Kensington. Last night, they called to say our partner school is 2 blocks outside of their service area.

But ya know what? We're gonna do it anyway.

Both me and my Boo forgot to exchange or Valentines Day cards (we had already negotiated no presents). I joked that we are soooo good at Valentine's Day. This followed. Am overly proud of my wit.

I always have to take a second to figure out which masking people are talking about because I am both covid conscious and autistic communities.
Add in law enforcement masking to protect their identities when states like NC have passed laws against people masking b/c it might protect identities...

Put another way, we could get rid of corn ethanol, switch 30% of the freed-up farmland to solar to generate 100% of US electricity, and use the other 70% of the freed-up land for whatever we want.

You’ll never guess but the solution to people not having money is to give them money.

In a way, that's how we as humans interact with each other in many ways. The experienced teaching, but letting those with a bit more pep in their step take the lead. Being tired, and perhaps annoyed at some antics, but still aiding in pulling them out of the same fire they learned how to dodge.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

If you're someone who never has to concern yourself w/ whether things are working or not--bc other people are quietly picking up the slack all around you while you allow this work to be invisible to you--you're probably more enamored w/ AI. Who cares if it makes mistakes, others will fix it for you

First of all--it doesn't even get things right half the time. If I want to look outside of myself for an answer to a thing, I am going to try to avail myself of a resource that is probably going to be right.

General genAI is simply not that. It is an averaging machine, not a verification machine.

I just wanna be clear concerning the Church protest in Minneapolis...

and please feel free to disagree

are you more concerned with the sanitation of the worship experience

Than the dehumanization of the human beings around you?

Starting tomorrow, the Trump administration is set to send notices to 1,000 student loan borrowers (first round) noticing them of an intent to garnish their wages for student loan debt.

This is cruel and unnecessary.

If you receive a notice, send it to us and we'll try to help.

People talk about distraction, but diffusion is a better way to think about it. When there are ten horrors a day, marshalling critical mass to overturn any one is difficult.

Pay close attention to who is saying that 14 year-olds *can* consent to sex with trump and other damp billionaires but *can’t* consent to gender affirming care provided in close and collaborative partnership with their doctor.
