"The dominant predator across all landscapes"? Oh sweetie, thank you for providing great material for a million social science studies and exam questions.

The 15-minute city is often presented as convenience. It is, in fact, about access.
Access to jobs, services, and opportunity, especially for those who have the least.
If inclusion is not at the core, proximity alone is not progress.
Thank you UN-Habitat for sharing this image

What fresh video-surveillance hell is this?
It’s a parking surveillance car in Geneva belonging to the Fondation des Parkings checking if cars have paid their space rather than, say, ensuring they don’t park on pavements, run over kids or pollute, right? And taking images of everyone everywhere.
One Orbán goes.
Another rolls in.
A step away from asking the Russians to investigate their own influence operations in the US. The guiding principle of Trump policy is that Russian ops are good because they support him personally. The guiding principle of Russian policy is that Trump is good because he wrecks the US & helps Russia.
Snoring cat, anyone? #caturday
Creeping AI usage in academic settings is robbing us of the human connections, the mentoring, the conversations: the whole point of producing meaning and knowledge collectively in dialogue.
Oh right, so all the 11 other months are now Pride Months there then! Excellent! 🌈 (Mais sérieusement, quel idiot fini!)
Sharing this because Caroline Lennon is indeed the world's best narrator and has been reading my books since 2010 (which hardly seems possible but here we are).
My secret vice is reading crime novels. 🗡️ I read so many, so fast that the details blur. Since I have the memory of a goldfish, I get to enjoy them ALL OVER AGAIN as audiobooks. All @janecasey.bsky.social's books are real gems & the audio versions read so skilfully by Caroline Lennon are unmissable!
Academia is a job where people are educated to do focused research, primarily alone. Then they get a job and have to teach, collaborate & develop curriculum, without any training. Then they get promoted to administration, where they have to manage people, facilities, & budgets, also without training
I'm one of those trans women. I worked ground ops for Artemis I.
I am torn between celebrating the success of my friends and peers and grieving how my dream of working for NASA was shattered by hateful assholes in Tallahassee
A former German/Nazi gun position close to the Passo della Croce. A few bits of wall remain, overlooking mountains stretching down to the sea, masked by clouds.
A whole mountain-top quarried off for marble. You might imagine that is for fine art & kitchen tops but apparently it’s mostly ground down for toothpaste and such. The speed at which I have seen this mountain shrink over the past 30 years is quite horrific.
Chasing ghost borders: finding a little bit of the old WWII Gothic line up a mountain in the Apuan Alps 🇮🇹, close to an area mined beyond recognition for marble.

Meanwhile the American vice-president is in Budapest to back up Orbán, Putin’s main ally in Europe, and repeating Russian slanders about Ukraine. Vance and Orbán are both part of a far right network ultimately funded by Russia. (7/14)
Extraordinary.
(Douglas Murray and Tim Montgomerie also mentioned in this article.)
The cover of the novel Geneva by Richard Armitage
Sometimes when you buy a book for its cover, you get curious geographical surprises. The bit about the train from Montreux “going up over the mountain to reach the Canton de Vaud”? The “Lac Genève” freezing over in winter? 🤔 So, hey, if anyone wants to set their novel in🇨🇭, I’m available to advise 😉.
i think if you tweet "a whole civilization will die tonight" you shouldn't go to the hague, the hague should get to come to you

Did you resist picking that wild garlic? It makes the best pesto!
This planet — with all its troubles — is worth caring for.
That should be our single purpose, as a species: To be stewards of this magnificent world, ensuring it thrives long into the future.

A White cat sits on a kitchen table hiding behind a jug with fresh branches hung with a couple of pretty eggs (Yes, I know, it shouldn’t be there… I have zero authority over these beasts…) . The cat is absolutely not hidden. He has a rather worried expression.
Can anyone spot the incredibly well-hidden cosplaying Easter Bunny?
