Q for authors: what fee should an unpublished author reasonably expect when submitting a short story to publications? I’ve seen a list, but the payment for acceptance seems wildly inconsistent. I know it’s not a guarantee my story would even be picked up, but I’m just looking for a bit of advice.

Finished my first short story and immediately started another. Feeling good.
Cover of A Short Stay in Hell by Steven L. Peck. Features seemingly infinite bookcases towering, and a figure in the negative space.
Reading this phenomenal story by Steven L. Peck. Anyone else give this one a read?

Hey! Brian posted an excerpt from one of his short stories, one that asks, "What if a scam-artist 'medium' accidentally summoned a smart-ass spirit?"
Please give it a read and let us know what you think!

Meat Eaters was fun! I was lucky enough to be able to read an ARC copy, and I’ll post a full review closer to the release date. - B

I love that people feel the need to attempt controlling everything about everyone. Cripes.
