On an eleven-hour flight from St Lucia to London, in economy on a full plane. The older lady sitting beside me was suffering from dementia and kept slapping me. Quite hard. I was moved to the only available seat, the cabin-crew jumpseat, so spent eight hours sat bolt upright and backwards.

I’ve been lucky enough to see a Nobel Prize in person. It’s a fairly small metal plaque in a simple presentation box. Very understated. The fact that An Actual Nobel Prize has to be blinged up tells you a lot about the current situation.

As someone who quite likes dogs, but doesn't want to own one ever, the British willingness to allow dogs EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME, particularly actual restaurants, remains deeply confusing to me.

I think it depends where in Italy. I find that in Florence / Milan people generally speak back to me in English, in Rome they seem relieved to be able to speak to me in Italian, and in more rural areas often it's just more practical for me to speak in my broken Italian as English isn't guaranteed.
