Funny, I was JUST reflecting on how I, as a child, always carried a kitchen knife when I walked to the store less than half a block from my house b/c a guy once stopped his car, got out, put his arm around my shoulders and tried to follow me home. AS A CHILD. Guess I must’ve hallucinated that 🥴

as always i encourage u all not to post things that may attract the attention of an authoritarian secret police with unlimited power to surveil american citizens at this time
We sure about that? Three different colored kittens reads as though Thomas O’Malley may not have been the first tomcat Duchess encountered in her life 👀
Important middle of the night question regarding Disney’s Aristocats that I cannot be bothered to google: who tf impregnated Duchess in the first place?!?
A funnier version of the joke would’ve been “No but I think I saw Palm Springs” and they go “Next time, I’ll take you to Calabasas.”
Is Bakersfield a shithole? Absolutely! But Palmdale and Merced are both shittier and smaller, so what was the joke? This movie felt like it was written by someone who’d only heard of Bako in theory and never been there or to most of the Antelope Valley 😂
Just saw Honey Don’t! & I have one non-spoiler comment: There’s a scene where two ppl have sex and one asks the other “Did you see heaven?” And she replies “No but I think I saw Palmdale” to which the other replies “Next time, I’ll take you all the way to Merced.” This movie is set in Bakersfield 😑
Struggling to understand the logic behind “he says he bought them last week.” If they live together than this relationship is older than a week so best case scenario he’s anticipating cheating, worst case scenario he’s been cheating for a bit & finally got caught. Neither option is worth staying for
Kennedy touring the campus after the shooting is fucking ghoulish: one vaccine denier surveying the crime scene of another. Holding the position of health secretary while parroting anti-science beliefs reads as tacit approval for ppl who think like the shooter; his existence emboldens these monsters
The cover art of Reneé Rapp’s Album “Bite Me” featuring a portrait photograph of Rapp’s face staring languidly into the camera with mouth slightly open and hair blowing haphazardly across her face covering one eye. She wears a white tee shirt and the background is white.
Reneé Rapp’s new album is delightful! Most songs land somewhere between glossy pop standard & heartfelt bluesy missive, her voice is wonderfully expressive, and every song is deliciously gay in all the best ways. Recommending for the pop lovers & sapphics out there! 🎶👩❤️💋👩 #musicsky
Ursula Le Guin: “The shift from denial of injustice to recognition of injustice can’t be unmade.... Once you see the injustice, you can never again in good faith deny the oppression and defend the oppressor. What was loyalty is now betrayal. From now on, if you don’t resist, you collude.”
"ChatGPT, show me on a map where most of the crimes are being committed in Washington, DC."
A tech company named themselves after a magical object that was used to sow greed, despair, and hopelessness in the hearts of the most powerful men of Middle Earth and you’re telling me they’re Bad™️? Where is my surprised face? I’m sure I set it down here somewhere….
It still boggles my mind that this company purposely named itself after a magical object that an evil overlord used to sow greed, despair, and hopelessness in the hearts of the most powerful men in Middle Earth 🤔
The whole article enrages me but this line in particular has me seeing guillotines: “Instead of investigating how more than 135 Texans died in horrific flooding, the GOP-controlled legislature made re-gerrymandering the state their top priority.”
“Instead of investigating how more than 135 Texans died in horrific flooding, the GOP-controlled legislature made re-gerrymandering the state their top priority.”
Well, duh, gotta make sure they have control of as many districts as possible so they can ensure EVERYBODY dies in the next disaster! 🙄
“Women are not objects” seems so easy yet I haven’t seen enough of this in response to Tr*mp’s comments…he described her like she was a fancy fountain pen that Epstein dropped into his pocket while visiting Mar-a-Lago; this “defense” should serve as evidence of his predatory views on young women.

A small blurry Willie Nelson onstage at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater with a giant American flag acting as backdrop behind him. In the foreground you can see the crowd and mixing board.
The reanimated corpse of Bob Dylan was a snooze but Willie Nelson was rockin’ for a 92yo! A great night overall.

Scored last-minute VIP box seat tickets to the Outlaw Music Festival from my work. Willie Nelson has been on my bucket list for a long time so I’m absolutely delighted & the seats genuinely could not be better! 💕🎶🤠
Gentle reminder: it’s not OK for anyone to make unwanted sexual passes at you, no matter what you look like. Saying things like they shouldn’t have because you’re “not even attractive” implies that conventionally attractive people somehow /do/ deserve unwanted attention. No one deserves it, period.
Please for the love of all that is good I need the update that she left this psycho to come through, STAT.
So excited to see this cycle play out again but, like, in my lifetime /ultimate sarcasm
It’s almost like nobody learned anything in the 80s when our country decided to deinstitutionalize the enormous populations being housed in mental institutions by releasing them onto the streets sight unseen with no community oversight or protections in place, exploding local unhoused populations.
But really for all the data Skloot puts together, I think it’s the conversations with the Lacks family that are most thought-provoking. “She's the most important person in the world and her family living in poverty. If our mother is so important to science, why can't we get health insurance?” 🫳🏻 🎤
A paperback version of the book “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” sits on a wood surface next to a golden pothos plant in a light blue ceramic pot, the plant itself is dappled with sunlight. On the cover of the book beside the title words, there’s a black & white cutout of a photo of Henrietta Lacks with hands on her hips and a sly smile looking out at the book’s audience.
Just finished this excellent read! I’ll be honest, I’ve never had a non-fiction make me cry with its ending like this one. Skloot paints a very real but very loving picture of the Lacks family & their struggles after losing their matriarch while posing some important questions about ethics #booksky
Word! We’re still discussing what a shit idea holding & participating in the 1936 Olympics was; every organization/country should take a page out of that history book and boycott the US.
