My intro to the polycrisis was his 2016 book "Surviving the 21st century: Humanity's 10 great challenges & how we can overcome them." Here he asks:
"What will be history’s verdict on a civilisation that can invent artificial intelligence – but hasn’t the brains to manage and recycle its own waste?"

Thank you, @juliancribb.bsky.social for this important warning!
Even a "small #nuclearwar" would cause a global #collapse of #economy, #society. We need to overcome #hypernormalization & resist governments that put our lives and future at #risk with #war, #genocide

Having slain over 200 million people since 1850, it is arguable that the nation state is the most destructive invention humans have ever made – and maybe it is now time to consign it to the garbage tip of history before it destroys us all.
The greatest threat facing humanity is not oil prices or even regional war. It is the destabilisation of the entire Earth System which sustains all life on this planet

"The fossil fuels sector is the primary driver of both CO2 and CH4 emissions and is showing every intention of increasing its activity. It screens this lethal activity behind a barrage of dishonesty, disinformation, distortion, and diversion." - Julian Cribb #global #climatechange #science #earth
"But we also need a majority of wise women in positions of power if we are to escape the fate which male aggression, overconsumption and overpollution are building for us. And a majority female population, engendered by global heating, could just help to achieve that."
To feed just one average person per day takes 950 litres of water, 12 kilos of lost soil, 1.6 litres of fossil fuel, 1g of highly toxic pesticide and 4.9 kilos of carbon emissions.
Even desal will not supply water for agriculture, which is the main user of fresh water. No water, no food.
Water scarcity is no longer a passing crisis. In many regions demand now permanently exceeds supply – a condition experts call water bankruptcy, @JulianCribb writes.

"Unless humans very quickly learn to think of #water as finite, and to realise our numbers have outrun the supply, then global water bankruptcy awaits us all. And that is very much worse than fiscal bankruptcy." - Julian Cribb
Good mournings #doomisphere 🤗
"The #rivers that are the #lifeblood of the planet and of human civilisation are #dying.
Worldwide, the #evidence is unequivocal, massive, #unchallengeable.
For over seven thousand years, most cities and towns have been situated in river valleys.

“Humanity now faces perhaps the biggest choice it will ever make: continue down the road to a future devastated by climate change, dwindling nature, degraded land, and polluted air, land and water, or change direction to secure a healthy planet, healthy people and prosperity for all.” (UN Sept 2025)

The overseas wars are necessary to distract Americans from their own enslavement and repression… as in the Galtieri regime in Argentina.
There is little of significance in the global climate data which suggests any political will is going to be applied to actually reduce fossil fuel emissions & arrest the upward, & accelerating, trend of global warming
