Books aimed at fans of Jack Ryan and Reacher more so than readers devoted to the prexisting fantasy scene. In the same way that romantasy like Fourth Wing broke out of the usual fantasy niche to target the mainstream readers of women's fiction.

I know 'mantasy' sounds silly, but I do think authors like Weir and Dinniman are writing very 'dad-focused' SFF. Books for the everyman who likes cars and football, rather than the subcultural nerd niche types who are the usual audience for genre fiction.

WEEK 5: This mixes quite a lot. It’s post apocalyptic event, with more of a fantasy-based event than scifi, but notes of both are still there. In that sense it’s urban fantasy, but it reads as a fantasy world unlike our own.

A few times now I've attempted to write a mid-2000s fantasy/horror loosely based on my own experiences as a teenager, but every time it makes me start spinning out and I have to stop. Those weren't good years for me, even though I think they'd be interesting to others.

Diablo and Goldeneye could easily be swapped with Age of Empires, Animal Crossing, Guild Wars 2, Minecraft... There's a ton of games I like a lot. But the other 6 feel particularly special to me and it would be hard to swap them out.
