I love watching them short circuit while trying to avoid answering a question they have realized makes them look silly

That goddamn “Bitter Lesson” essay is being abused to hell so bad that these guys really think we can DATA!!/COMPUTE!! our way out of or through anything.

Just gonna get some magical emergence that will make sense of everything, understanding how reality works via shitpost

The Legend of Aang looks incredible paramount is truly some dipshits for not releasing it theaters

Silicon Valley and its sycophants are proof that believing emotions don't have value and prioritizing "logic and reason" just fucks you up. Omg its crazy, like we aren't computers or something and acting like that is incredibly unhealthy

People on Tiktok turning Christina Koch into Hange Zoe is some of my favorite shit right now

The whole situation is cooked they come up to us anyway so lemme squeeze the goddamn water plushy it seems more mean to ignore them!

I was losing my mind when I saw praise for this. Thats not using a computer thats generating a video of using a computer! Why do they believe anything can just be anything as long as you have “data”

Of course many tech people in their endless hubris are super impressed by these code generators.

"I can write code and create worlds inside the computer, therefore I am a god among mere plebs—and hence this machine is a god too."

Evolution isnt design, its the spaghetti that stuck

Every moment was throwin some cosmic molecular noodles and seeing which stuck. Then tossing those noodles the next moment. For the last 4.5+ billion years of earths existence

Anything else you think the computer is doing is quite literally all in your head. That is the only place where "the voltage in this circuit actually stands for the number 2 here" and isnt just the literal voltage in the circuit. We set up everything in there so our imaginings work out consistently!

Now watch someone show up and say some shit like "but THAT doesn't matter for intelligence..." and still believe they have a grounded, material, scientific understanding of the topic. "Well the brain is real and computers are real therefore it cant be anything a computer cant do". Really. You sure?

I cannot imagine still believing computers/math can and ARE doing what biology does. That all of this is "doing something else actually" that a computer can ALSO do, just "in the abstract." One we make, the other we cant, but the computer is still "capturing the fundamental process" somehow.

Animation of an area like that zoomed in cross section (DNA/RNA/Newly forming protein strand in white, tRNA in pink, ribosome in maroon/magenta, the flagella components in red/yellow/orange):

From David S. Goodsell book "The Machinery of Life". Water-color cross section through a single bacterial cell. Surrounded by a multi-layered cell wall (green). The long corkscrew-shaped flagella are turned by motors in the cell wall, propelling the cell through its environment. The interior of the cell is filled with molecular machines for building and repairing molecules, for harnessing different sources of energy, and for sensing and protecting against environmental dangers (70,000 X zoom)

Zoomed in view of a section of the previous image, where you can see the flagellar motor anchored in the cells membranes, the glycoproteins on the outer surface, the proteins embedded in the membrane, and proteins in the cytoplasm performing various functions, like ribosomes (purple) making proteins from RNA, and polymerases (orange) making rna from DNA (yellow)

This isnt gonna be a thread where I lay it out. The challenge, to see how little we are actually capable of doing, only becomes apparent when you try to piece it together yourself. Because how would you move things that small wherever you want/need to, when you want, to make even this:

This is how hard biology is, and our best technology:
Youre in a chemistry lab, any realistic one you can imagine. Try to think of a REAL, detailed process to make a single cell. Its ongoing chemistry, so you gotta whip up the right soup with beakers, heat, ingredients etc. Make 1 cell from scratch

That level of self-awareness alone is such a critical factor of being an "intelligent" well-adjusted human being though

Re: Altman, Molotov cocktails, and violence:

Here's Yudkowsky saying that more or less 8.2 billion people should be "allowed" to die so that his dumb "utopian" vision of digital space brains among the stars can be realized. (Minimum viable human population might be 150.)

I love when people misunderstand the work I have literally done myself, and then post it at me. I personally know like a third of the people on the author list of that paper, we built the brain volume together.

The model is just a map of what is connected, it doesn't DO any actual brain things

TIL that data worker harms, deskilling, so-called AI psychosis, environmental issues, noise issues, health issues around “AI” data centers, disinformation, proliferation of fascist imagery, a massive economic bubble, etc., are not real-world violence or actual disruptions.

You know a world revolution is a whole movie plot right? So really its not that the plot or conflict is stupid, its that you didn't like it because it wasn't doing the revolutionary politics you wanted in a different story you wished for instead of the one they were telling

1 week ago 1 0 1 0

Thats resolving a conflict, growing/changing for the better, and a small sign of commitment to change. We are witnessing first hand what happens when goodfaith governance is seriously challenged. If there was nothing wrong, we wouldnt have a movie? You think its stupid that wakanda was flawed?

1 week ago 6 0 0 0

Why is that stupid?

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

God of course it is. I was waiting for something like "so then the LLM wrote a story about hacking and exploiting all the systems..." that is always inevitably revealed about these press releases.
