This is excellent: a fifty year history of muscle cars, mass cruising, and sideshows in Oakland.
On a minor note one of my favorite things about Oakland is that Oakland rap fans listen to Oakland rap.
I had a whole unit on TP supply chains! And a great final project from a student who collected and analyzed memes about the Ever Given.

If this wasn’t such a tragedy there’d be a funny movie with whoever the Iranian Seth Rogen is where he’s the guy who picks up the ringing phone and becomes the accidental head of Iran in communication with the Trump admin
Underrated that the era of neoliberal globalism characterized by fierce defense of intellectual property as rents, patents, and copyrights gave way so quickly to a new paradigm marked by the blithe plunder of all human creativity for LLM training data.

After a series of fatal strikes involving civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, Congress directed the Pentagon to reduce civilian casualties as part of a 2019 law. During the Biden administration, the Defense Department created the Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response initiative. The civilian mitigation teams – cut by 90% by Hegseth – work with military commanders on target planning, and making sure that targets are actually military sites. The teams help come up with "no strike" lists, including religious and cultural sites and schools
I knew that the Department of War shot a missile into a school & killed 175 civilians, mostly children.
This is learned today:
Secretary of War Hegseth had cut the teams assigned to prevent such tragedies by 90%.

The war on Iran & the war on immigrants aren’t different stories— wars justify investments in technologies of violence, create a foreign threat that manufactures consent for the abrogation of domestic rights.
