I am still optimisic about this Kickstarter campaign despite having accidentally launched it so its mid-point is into the worst economic crisis point in decades.

As an independent writer and creator, the winds blow us like maple seeds where they will. (Yes, book is being printed in Canada🍁.)

If you are curious, we rewrote the way we connect book recommendation lists by authors/experts/fans to different genres and topics. It should be 100x better now, and it reshuffles every week to help surface different recommendations.

Just to chime in, even with written books they had to buy replacements once they got worn down, so it isn't perfect, but it is kinda equivalent. I wish there was a rule that more went to authors though with ebooks. Should be a 80/20 split or higher with books.

I guess we are kind of caught up to what the US has publicly; we will see in six months what is going on behind closed doors as releases hit. I do think sanctions are still a good thing. And this could have been discovered by anyone anywhere at some point.

Does it worry you that China hit this first with a side project? Or what was the big shock from your thoughts?

Sure, there are major hiring and research areas that cluster together, but those areas are all over the world. China has a lot in this area, I would imagine India is kicking it into high gear as well. Did you think China wasn't really good at this stuff, and this felt surprising?

Sorry, what system? I am unclear there. My point is great stuff being researched all over, thus advances are going to come from all over. It is odd to think advances are going to only happen in one geographical location.

Indie Bookstores Will Soon Be Able to Sell E-Books (Gift Article) Bookshop, a site that lets independent, bricks-and-mortar bookshops sell their books online, is launching an app that will allow the sales of e-books, too.

Good news for folks who want to support local booksellers

I can't tell if you are messing with me :)? AI research is happening globally; everyone is learning and sharing with each other. It isn't always going to be in the USA. Advances are being made all over by all kinds of amazing people.

Nah, that is a bad take, IMO. From what I've read, they had a solid approach; if they hadn't done it, some smaller, less cash-rich entity would have been elsewhere. The export controls are meant to cause pain, they are not a perfect solution.
