Good morning !
Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.
In the night, a girl in a red dress runs toward us from a castle that spans a river. She looks determined and scared. War planes fly overhead. The text says, "The Night War. Two-time Newbery Honor-winning author Kimberly Brubaker Bradley."
The Night War by @kimbbbradley.bsky.social — historical fiction + a twist.
Separated from her family in the Vel d'Hiv roundup in Nazi-occupied France, Miri berates herself for not being brave enough … but she has far more courage than she thinks.
Happy May the Fourth, #writingcommunity.
Shout out to all my fellow #sff writers out there.
don't see why everyone is so mad about this catGPT thing. like, you go on there, type in CAT or something, and they send you a cat to live with you. true, it doesn't generate new cats, it has to send you cats that already exist. but that seems okay! people are so dramatic.
An orange kitten rests on a tan colored blanket. She has all of her feets tucked underneath her.
Dandy, in solidarity with Spike being unable to use a leg at the moment, has removed her feets.
Happy May Day birthday, Jorts!!! ❤️

To Those Who Call Themselves Christian but Seek to Divide and Conquer the World My god you think that's what love is? Go to your little, bitter meetings, your callous rallies, your palaces of gold. You think you can choose who is beautiful? Your country is open to the chosen— while somewhere, in the shadows of your houses, the one you believe you are hearing is hanging in a crown of thorns, in agony, burning the world with mercy, his arms in an embrace he cannot close. —Joseph Fasano

My fifth 5⭐️ read of 2025!
I wasn’t expecting that ending but kind of loved it (?!) #booksky
Agree!
Plus, lots of indie bookstores have shop dogs/cats.
The pup at my favorite bookstore gets up when a guest comes in, greets the guest politely, then returns to his bed as if to say, "Welcome! I'll be right here if you need assistance."
Congratulations! What a feat (on aching feet)! I'm a fan of anyone who takes a book along while shopping for more books.
Great book haul! One of the best perks of shopping indie bookstores is the occasional free ARC gift!! ❤️
A little virtual pocket of peace for you today. 🫶
Take a breath.
Time is soft here.
You are welcome here.

For herd immunity against measles, 92-95% of the population must be vaccinated.
As a live vaccine MMR can’t be given to pts who are immune suppressed (including pts receiving chemo/radiation or immunosuppression)
And it’s not effective in newborns.
So if you CAN get it, we REALLY need you to.
Your periodic reminder that one way to think about privilege is: who's allowed to make mistakes?
Or if you're in the Chicagoland area, Indie Bookstore Day would be a good day to visit Bucket O Blood Books, who are constantly placing big orders of our horror stuff. We haven't visited the store in person yet, but definitely plan to on our next trip to Chicago. It looks amazing.
Here is a great thing you can do today for Indie Bookstore Day! You don’t even have to leave the house! Which is especially helpful if, like me, you are experiencing a chronic fatigue crash and cannot move from the sofa.
I stayed in line AND let a little girl cut in front of me.
I remember being 10 years old, finding the perfect book, clutching it to my heart, and bouncing on my toes while waiting to buy it. 😍
If we want nice things in the future, we must support indie bookstores in the present. #indiebookstoreday
Didn't realize till now that I too am a forehead-first shopper when I'm after a book I want.
Once it's safely in my arms, I can mosey to other books that I possibly want, but don't know it yet.
I kind of committed a small infraction on Indie Bookstore Day in that I entered an indie bookstore and did not mosey; I went straight through three rooms, forehead-first, to a book I wanted like a psychopath.
Don't leave home without your Kubrick stare on #indiebookstoreday!
#ArvidaBookCompany in Tustin, Calif, is my favorite local haunt. New/used books, great kids/middle school section, lots of community events, + bookshop dog (of course).
Beautiful book haul! Were you feeling "red and black" themed today, or were you just subconsciously artistic? 🤔
Heartwood by Amity Gaige shows the profile silhouette of a woman, but the silhouette is made of tall green trees, leaves and branches.
Workdays: *Yawn* "It's too early to get out of bed."
#indiebookstoreday: *Jumps out of bed* "Let's GO!"
From my haul today:
Three books bought from local bookstore on Independent Bookstore Day, Saturday April 26, 2025. Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw, Bikes in Space: Feminist Bicycle Science Fiction edited by Elly Blue, and Bikes in Space: Volume 2, More Feminist Science Fiction edited by Elly Blue. Also present is a minimalist art sticker of four stacked books in yellow, blue, pink, and orange. Divided between the four spines is written: I'm not buying too many books I'm just supporting the local economy.
Went to my #local #bookstore with spouse and indulged in some awesome #indiebookstore finds. I'm no fan of crowds, but I was happy to join so many people of all ages enjoying the events then leaving the store with one or more armloads of books. #IndieBookstoreDay
