If you want to feel particularly insignificant this morning, I took this (very quick and noisy) photo of galaxy NGC4205 last night. Every star here is relatively close, within our own galaxy... except the one marked with red lines. That's a supernova within NGC4205, 65 million light years away

This chart documents one of humanity’s greatest achievements, in my view.
We just lived through the fastest population growth in human history.
It would have been impressive if food supplies had merely kept pace — but on every continent, they grew even faster than the population.
Excellent article by Brigid Laffan and Bobby McDonagh in Irish Times today. Long past time we had some mature engagement on Ireland’s role in the real world.
Remarkable in the splits it exposes
"Iran, which is completely defeated, is disrupting the Strait with the navy and missiles we've completely destroyed and that is unacceptable because it is making the oil price go up, which is good actually, and NATO which I do not support needs to come rescue us immediately. Israel has killed tens of thousands of Palestinian women and girls in its genocidal war on Gaza.
On International Women's Day, we look at the number of women and girls Israel killed in Gaza in 2025.

Correct.
This is a real video from the official White House account on a war that is currently killing people. I don’t know how the US is going to come back from this.

As the G20 prepares to discuss global inequality, prominent economists are calling for a dedicated international panel, arguing that unchecked wealth gaps are undermining stability and trust.

Opinion: We could make our towns safer for everyone by lowering speed limits to 30km/h
Here’s the original clip of Ronald Reagan from April 25, 1987, where he delivered a complete and total rebuke against tariffs. Trump's calling Reagan’s words here “FAKE” and “fraudulent.” They’re 100% real. And the original clip is actually far worse for Trump, as much is left out of the ad:
The brutality. The corruption. The lies.
Everything is on full display — and many Americans are beginning to learn an important lesson.
Watch.
An important perspective from @ciarancannon.bsky.social!
The contrast between active transport and car infrastructure becomes even starker once you factor in the broader financial and health costs of cars, whether it's inactivity, air pollution, or noise pollution (to name but a few negatives...).
