Perhaps you'd enjoy seeing academics making fun of their own teaching and research, including the continued hijinks of a New Yorker teaching the Scottish Enlightenment in Scotland. If so, you can get discounted £4 tickets by using the code BRIGHTCLUB at this link: www.thestand.co.uk/performance/...

A High School Ham’s First Take on ‘Hamilton’ Lessons from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s last 2 years at Hunter: collaboration, delegation, and digging deeper.

Still can't quite believe that an old university classmate is now the biographer of an old high school classmate, let alone that I'm quoted in said biography. Can't wait to read the whole thing. www.americantheatre.org/2025/09/09/a...

Any ideas where a teenager should send a short story for consideration for publication or prizes or something like that?

Here Are the Attack Plans That Trump’s Advisers Shared on Signal The administration has downplayed the importance of the text messages inadvertently sent to The Atlantic’s editor in chief.

Pete Hegseth yesterday: "Nobody was texting war plans."

Well sure if you don't consider minute-by-minute details including what kind of planes and when missiles are launched "war plans" then we're cool

🇲🇹 Malta: "Kant" Must Be Removed From Miriana's Eurovision Entry - Eurovoix The European Broadcasting Union has stated that "Kant" has to be removed from its entry for Eurovision 2025.

I've gotten giggles when lecturing on the categorical imperative with my New York accent. Apparently the Maltese accent creates similar issues. Either that, or the EBU are all hardcore empiricists and consequentialists. #Kant #Eurovision

My favourite detail: The spiritual experience that brought "Rabbi Binyamin" to what he considers Judaism was a high school production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Oy.

Synagogue of shame: The converts being coerced and exploited by the British ‘rabbi’ who follows Jesus - The Jewish Chronicle Andrew Sheldrake – known to his followers as Rabbi Binyamin – has attracted scores of disciples

The Jewish community in Norwich is tiny, so this strange group was unavoidable when we lived there. Disturbed to learn that it's probably a dangerous cult and not just a weird example of cultural appropriation.

What is Institutional Ethics Review, and Why is it (Still) so Unsatisfactory for the Social Sciences? In this blog, Dr Rebecca Tapscott reflects on a two-day international workshop held at the University

This should be of interest to any social scientist who ever had trouble with ethics review, and any ethicist who ever wondered why ethics review has so little to do with ethics. It was a great workshop which I was proud to attend. www.gla.ac.uk/schools/soci...

🎄🎅 From tomorrow until Christmas we'll post a sovereignty-themed advent calendar. After all Levia-clause is sovereign! He makes law determining who is naughty or nice and dispenses justice, giving gifts to some and punishing the others (taking away bad kids to the forest, in some traditions).

University of Sydney review proposes ‘civility rule’ that requires ‘meaning of contested words’ to be made clear | Australian universities | The Guardian Lecturer questions if academics will have to explain context of every phrase they use, saying those who speak up on Palestine would be affected

Looks like the University of Sydney will need a philosopher to co-teach every course, interrupting the main lecture to “make the meaning of contested words and phrases clear." amp.theguardian.com/australia-ne...
